Nation's Quality of Life Below OECD Average

Overall, the country's economic and financial indicators were in good shape but the quality of life for its people remained below the OECD average. |
"per capita gross domestic product (GDP) ranked 23rd with $23,038"
Ratio of teachers salaries to GDP 2.4 (see the table below)
If Korea's GDP is $23,038, then Korean teachers earn about $55,000 (or 55,000,000 won) per year.

Why would population growth and a higher birthrate be considered a good thing?
The thing I hate most about Korea is the crowds. Even on a mountain in the forest I bump into people: never a peaceful quiet moment. Just one moment of silence, please. |

My wife and I went to look at the Cherry Blossom trees last weekend, near KAIST. I was struck by how quiet it was, even though there were a few people there. It was just so strange for Koreans to be contented with a place without finding a need to make a bunch of racket. Of course, there were still a couple of jackpots who drove through like they couldn't get out of there soon enough, even though they were supposed to be looking at the view. |
