Ever see a Korean kid washing his hands, without soap?

That's what I saw this morning. He had his hands under the faucet, rubbing his hands together.

But there was a bar of soap sitting in front of him. I bought it.

There is no soap in any of the other bathrooms in the school.

There is no toilet paper in most of the toilets. I keep a roll on my desk. No one has asked why.

As someone else correctly pointed out, NEVER eat unwrapped food handed to you by a student.

Kids are getting pink eye again. Several are wearing eye patches.

No one in the school seems to have considered that putting soap out, with signs saying "wash your hands before leaving" might help.

And of course, lots of kids are coming to class sick, coughing a lot.

CAN'T KOREA AFFORD SOAP?

Your students rinse their hands? You must be at a progressive school; mine don't even do that!

After each class, and even during sometimes, I use Purell (hand sanitizer) liberally. I recommend you do the same.

Yeah, I constantly have to explain to my kids the correlation between dirty hands and pink eye. They all go "ahhh" as if this is the first time they've heard it.

On the other hand, they all have toothbrushes here and are religious about brushing their teeth...

When I think about being in restaurants and seeing people use their bare hands to prepare my meal, I always think about the lack of soap in restrooms.

But when in Rome...err, Korea...

I hear that. Strange how they don't care about washing their hands after going to the toilet, but they're fanatical about brushing their teeth.

Oddly enough, this last Monday was marked on my school calendar as "Hygiene Awareness Day".

The only thing soap is good for is to clog the toilets. Really, germs are everywhere...washing your hands won't help. it all has to do w/ the strength of your immune system. If you've been here long enough you won't catch anything... Very Happy
