thanks for all the help from the kind folks here.
made the leap from korea to china and it is intersting to say the least. going from an academy to a real school is stunning. the entire school is dead quiet. it will be intersting to see how to get them to open upop and talk in school after being conditioned for years to only look and listen.
showed up for work on tuesday. they told me i must be tired and to take the rest of the week off. ok. my class load will be something like 16 classes per week. i better rest up.
best wishes. |

What kind of school is it? A regular state-run school? |

I bet your 3 bedroom apartment has hot water most of the time, and I guess you can learn to live without some of your favorite internet sites all of the time, and the rest of them some of the time, via a nice 100kbs connection.
The intelligent political conversations you have with your Chinese co-workers will be the envy of all of your friends left stuck in Korea.
Enjoy the food - spend all the money you save on toilet paper and vile tasting diarrhea medicine which doesn't work. |

i work in a regular school but am an employee of a multinational corporation that wants to keep the locals happy and thus has brought in foreign teachers for the local kids. my pay here is the same as it was in korea (except that as the won sinks in synch with the US$, the RMB gets stronger). also lotsa vacation time here vs. 0 in ROK.
yeah, china is much less developed/safe/orderly than korea. for some that is a barrier while for others it is the attraction. it is always an honor to be a place's "first" foreign teacher. |
