Yeah, this one has the potential to eclipse even the "Britain Adopts Sharia Law OH NOES" wingnut hysteria from a couple months back.

Isn't it odd that a movement obsessed with the military and martial toughness -- to the point of slavering idol-worship -- gets its feelings hurt so easily? It's like the conservatives want to be Snake Plissken but always, somehow, end up as Jack Burton.

Of course it's over reaction. First, the ad was run in Mexico for people who, historically, had their land taken by the USA. Second, God forbid Americans get a history lesson or apologize for land they gained through genocide and war.

People who got upset by this can't take humor or are fearful that their nation isn't the most powerful nation in the world (which it is for time being).

Um, what? Maybe it's you who needs the history lesson.
That land was never "taken" by the USA, it was acquired legally through war. How does ANY country acquire their land and borders? THROUGH WAR.
The Americans should apologize? So, should Mexico apologize to Spain then? Should the Normans apologize to the English and the Scots to the English as well?

What is the fuss, exactly?

More than a dozen calls to boycott Absolut were posted on michellemalkin.com, a Web site operated by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin. The ads sparked heated comment on a half-dozen other Internet sites and blogs.

Oh, my. Heated comments on the blogosphere and a few calls to boycott an unpatriotic product on michellemalkin.com.

In other words, its a Tuesday.

The AP is trying to push a controversy out of a few irate blog posts.

Oh, good. I say we declare war on Canada then. There's a lot of room up there, they have tons of oil and resources, and with global warming coming, a great climate, and we'll finally be connected with Alaska!

Are you with me?

No, history is history, the Americans shouldn't get their panties in a bunch over a vodka ad, or vodka being sold on Sundays for that matter. Yet lots of land was taken in Mexico and the USA. You can call it what ever you like, but having superior weapons and lying your ass off to the natives in order to acquire land is taking it.

You are in a bar drinking a drink, hopefully not a Korean beer, and working on your laptop. I walk in and hold gun to your head. You pull a knife. I shoot you. And acquire your laptop. I didn't take it, though, I won it in a fight.

You can't apply 21st century morals to 18th-19th century events. The world has changed too much.

Anyways, Mexico can be bitter all they want. But USA can certainly block imports, and watch the company's profits go down the shitter. They'll learn to put up or shut up.

I am waiting for the day that Japan launches a product and includes Takeshima on their map. 100,000 fingers will be chopped off.

Americans do not care. Just a few right-wingers at michellemalkin.com.

That has got to be the worst analogy I've ever read.

Let me see, should the eeeeevil US be begging the British to come back to take over the colonies since they lost them in a war and that's not a legitimate way to gain territory in your eyes? Or would an apology be enough? Or are you a proponent of turning everything back to the native Indians since they were here first?

History lesson indeed...

Well, that's kinda the point. I heartily endorse this boycott by right-wingers. It emphasizes their emotional dysfunction and distance from the American mainstream, not to mention being pretty damn funny.

Might be a bad analogy but I can understand where he is coming from. Without trying to inflame passions or hi-jack the thread completely it has always intrigued me how, in academia, in commonly shared historical perspective, America and Canada got off so lightly after perpetrating one of the world's greatest genocides.

Let's see Absolut use this for an ad. Then we'll see how funny it is.
