If he likes history, he should find a school in a region that has many historic places. Queens University in Kingston might be good. Fort Henry is there, the Murney (spelling) Towers. Also it is close to Fort Wellington in Brockville. Upper Canada village is also in that area. These are all great places to get summer jobs.

To answer that question you need to ask yourself: Where do the best Canadian high school students go? Where do international students want to go? You will always get the same names: McGill, U. of T., and U.B.C.

Definitely not "Atlantic Baptist University" in Moncton, New Brunswick. Yes, there is such a place. It's located in the hairy part of Canada's armpit too.

There are a lot of good universities in Canada. It just depends on what you want to study and where. I would personally recommend a university on the west coast as the weather is better year round. Schwa recommendation of Uvic is a good one in terms of location. It has a beautiful campus near the ocean. Victoria is a very easy city to get around. All students get a bus pass at a very, very low rate. They provide a medical and dental plan at a low rate. Student housing is fairly new and decent. However, I don't know what the Faculty of History is like.

Another option for your student is to apply to a college like Camosun College (Victoria) or Langara College (Vancouver). Both would have lower tuition and smaller classes. Then, after two years your student could transfer to his/her university of choice. I've known a lot of foreign students who have done this.
