Well, the reason "Surprise " sucks is because the entire episode tapes over the course of around 12 hours minimum (my longest taping was from 7am-2am the next day, and that was for the short skit), and the takes only have to be good enough, not award-winning. You don't get much input from what the PD wants, unless it's something he absolutely doesn't want. The costume people never have the proper sizes, especially if you don't fit the average Korean body type. The make-up and hair people sit around doing each others hair and make-up, and ignore the actors unless the PD specifically needs them to do something (usually to make someone look older, or to apply fake cuts, bruises, etc.). Lunch is usually at a horrible restaurant (don't get me wrong, I love Korean food, but they usually stick to very low budget places, where sometimes the cleaniless is cause for concern), etc., etc.

I had a main character role of a French singer. I speak very, very limited French (Je joue au tennis, par example). I had to fake two songs (in French!), and I was sent the lyrics the night before. The PD, for whatever reason, assumed I can speak French (didn't ask me, and no, I'm not Canadian). The biggest reason why the acting sucks? YOU NEVER RECEIVE THE SCRIPT IN ADVANCE (oh- no rehearsals, either).

However, if you are trying to get into acting (back home), you can work on your portfolio by doing "Surprise" (many E6 visa holders are doing just that). Obviously, I sucked in my lip synching, and it was pretty embarrassing, but whatever. I haven't done it since March, but I'm going to start doing it again because the actors are really fun to work with. It's a great way to meet new people, and you are meeting a wide range of people- kids of embassy workers, students, ESLers, entertainment people, etc. Something different other than the work I do from 8:30-5:30 everyday.

If you really want to do the English teaching stuff, you basically have to know someone. Otherwise, you could join a talent agency for foreigners, like Dobe Entertainment in Itaewon, but they won't work with you if you are an E2 visa holder. However, they will sponser you on an E6 if they are interested in you. If anyone has any questions about "Surprise", feel free to pm me.

Yeah, makes me laugh. Steve Revere and his motley crue are outta this world.

Steve's pastel shirts require the viewer to wear sunglasses. His jokes are lame and when he talks English to the audience he comes across as a kindergarten teacher with his slow terrible accent.

Lisa Kelly has a mouth like a crocodile - she's really should have hit an Apgjeong orthodentist earlier.

Naomi, the dearly departed Italian student who used to sit on the left of Steve, never seemed to progress after six months of being a guest.

Now they got some kinda Euro guy happening with a strange accent and the bandanna wear on top to hide his bald head. He looks like he just stepped of a Pattaya beach. He also has an eye for Lisa>

But all in all, I kinda feel sorry for the cameramen having to film that circus....

sorry but thats crap. if you really think that constitutes a show reel, you'll in for a big suprise (pardon the pun). Most casting directors wont even give it a look or consider it. my mother is a casting director/assoc producer, and Ive worked in the industry is Aus.... it means squat.

Dobe doesnt do suprise, you might want to look into Hwarang for that one. plus none of these places will pay you regulary, and usually not on time. without the e6 though chances are you will get fined and deported, I know people who have

I watched that show...true or false..? surprise..? whatever its called when I was in korea....Very Happy Yeah all the actors/actresses suck...except for one...there is a guy with kind of very short hair...blondish...I thought that if any of them had a chance to go anywhere, it would be him. The rest all remind me of low budget canadian actors....and if you've seen some of the low budget canadian shows you know what I'm talking about...Razz

HOW DARE YOU!!!

She is beautiful. I love her, and she loves me, and we are going to run away together and have lots and lots of strange multi-racial, multi-gendered ambidextrous babies who will learn English by singing ridiculous chants whilst three bemused "musicians" look on and pretend they're interested. I bet she bangs like a dunny door in a gale.

Me, her, and that other guy from the same show who has had exactly the same eye surgery. You're all invited to join us.

Don't know who that obese, curly-haired waygook in full hanbok is, but I cringe and reach for the remote as soon as he appears.

I'd put about 70% of them into the "not so good looking" category, 25% into the "scary" group, and about 5% into the attractive group (Eva comes to mind) ... maybe my yellow fever is just worse than I expected.

Steven Revere seems like a nice guy. I'm not sure why he's getting hated on by some posters here.

Lisa Kelly totally does it for me. She's damn sexy.

Naomi is growing on me. I'd definately hit that! Laughing

And the other guy, Paul, Greg...? I forget his name. He looked like a deer in te headlights in the first few episoids and i felt sorry for him.

But he slowly got more comfortable and has a sense of humor. He's cool in my book.

I feel embarrassed for the waygooks I see on TV.

They just look silly.

I'd love to know what they actually get paid though. "Crap" is relative.

a remember a 'mate' of mine applying for a TV job, the requirements were that he could speak korean and english I seem to remember. Pay was decent, but not outstanding.

I was offered two spots over the years. The first one they wouldn't tell me ANTYTHING about the job. Nothing about pay, hours, what I would be doing, NOTHING. They just expected me to want to do it because I would be on TV. They were flummoxed when I outright refused to do it without more information.

The second was offered to me and a female co-worker. I went the first day, and after seeing how bad the scripts were, and how my corrections to the grammar in the scripts was not only ignored but I was scolded... pfft! I walked out. I'm not going to deliberately teach something I know is incorrect. Didn't matter anyway.... the show filmed 4 episodes, none were actually televised, and the foreign teachers got stiffed on pay.

Neither job required I be bilingual, by the way. Neither even asked if I spoke any Korean at all. As for hours, I don't know about the first job, but the second required 3 hours on Saturday for filming on episode.
