Why do Koreans restrict their diet to mostly cheap food like cabbage, radishes, carrots and soybeans, pay at least twice as much as people do elsewhere, and then throw at least half of it away?

I find it hard to believe that millions of Koreans are eating this way because of me. I would assume they were eating this way before I arrived.

I think I asked a reasonable question.

If you are a Korean, perhaps you could explain this to me. I presume from your reply that you assume you do understand Korean culture!!!

1) Because these are the foods that there diets have traditionally consisted of and still do today (plus rice).

2) Because Korea has high import tariffs in order to protect local farmers.

3) Wasting food is hardly a Korean phenomenon. I find Koreans tend to finish what they take much more often than I was used to before I came here. Everyday more than enough food is wasted in the U.S.A to feed all the starving people in the world.

Done. This topic can be trashed now.

I assume from YOUR reply that you don't understand sarcasm.

Are YOU suggesting I am Korean? That doesn't make sense.

I just assumed from the other post that sarcasm was not allowed in Korea.

When is the last time you saw a Korean bring home leftovers from a restaurant in a doggie bag? I've been here 2 years and never saw it happen but it's happens all the time back home (in the USA)

I see it all the time in Western style restaurants. Don't see it in Korean restaurants...but it goes into animal feed or fertilizer or something anyways.
Point is...it still gets reused.

i don't think they waste a lot of food... if you have lived in a korean household, you'll know that koreans serve and eat the same side dishes they had for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

Why do Americans restrict their diet to mostly cheap food like McDonald's, French fries, greasy food, chocolate and Coca-Cola, pay at least twice as much as it's worth, and then throw at least half of it away?

The kimchi and danmuji you don't eat gets thrown back into the pot at the cheap places.

Since when are carrots a Korean staple? What about lettuce, cucumbers, onions, peppers and mushrooms? What about all the fruit?

Where is food half the price of here? Where else do I get a full meal of comparable quality for under $2.50 (half of the 5000won which is the max I normally pay for lunch or dinner)?

They do, and so do Canadians. I'm not pointing the finger. The Western world has some deep problems.

Oh, really? Then how do you explain this?

Obesity % of pop that is fat

Korea 3%
Canada 17%
USA 33%

Oh, right it's all because of their genes.. Rolling Eyes

ps- I'm not just knocking the US here. NZ is probably just about as bad these days.
