Well, considering that a plurality of ESL teachers in Korea are Canadian and a significant number of them are NotAmericans rather than Canadians, and the second largest group are Americans, so it isn't surprising that the majority of posts are on American topics. It is a huge world out there, and every day things happen that don't concern the US directly, but it isn't really surprising that most threads relate to the US. I know it's a spherical world with no center, but humans are kind of ignorant when it comes to this kind of thing. It's natural for them to focus on one small part of the world and treat it as the center of the world. It's more a lack of imagination than anything else. |

Care to support this claim? Something logical this time perhaps? |

It seems like news having to do with the US somewhat dominates the forum, but even more so with this being an election year. Many of us are following the election closely. Several of the Canadian members of this board post about the US election, so I would say there is a broad interest in that subject right now. |

Less than half of the topics on the front page are about America. It's an election year, a significant percent of the people here are American, most newspapers cover American events, so I don't see what the problem is. If I open a Korean newspaper, it's not often that I see stories about Canada, but I will always see stories about America. |

The US spends as much on "defense" as the rest of the world combined and seems to be constantly making a big mark (often blood red) on the rest of the world. That gets a lot of attention and concern.
Now, if France wants to see itself get more attention on this board, I suggest that they send their army and navy to try to re-colonize Viet Nam or Algeria or both. I guarantee that will lead to a very dramatic spike in the number of France-oriented posts on this board. Comprendez-vous? |

Please post some non-American current events.
Or at least try to find some activity in the world that does not have an American hand in it. |

*50 threads about the 2 year long American election as though a: it's exciting and b: the outcome is going to make the blindest bit of difference.
*I suppose it's good that the nodding dogs get to talk about how well their country has made a mess of everything it has done to try and "help" the Middle East.
In England all politics is crap, always has been crap and always will be crap, why sit around debating it like it matters. That's why I find it so funny for Americans and Canadians to dissect their politics in numerous threads, like it's any different.
Now why don't people bother voting anymore? |

Really! And then getting all passionate about dissecting the most minute of differences between the near-interchangeable MOEbama, hilLARRY, and McCURLY. |

I think there is some international discussion. However, there isn't enough of it. We need more discussions, I think, about other big countries in the world like Russia, China, India, and Africa. I mean things that happen in the Sudan or Zimbabwe should be of concern to us and not only what happens with Barrak Obama and Hillary Clinton or Harper with the Canadian troops in Afghanistan. I would say this group is naturally slanted toward American stuff, but it is more like 60/40, so it is quite international in the end. That's pretty good. |

I've tried the international stuff before, and few if any of it gets posted on.
There are just way too many Americans and Canadians on here for one (and Canadians seem to be just involved if not more involved in particularly American news than even most Americans). |
