LMB's Grand National Party and other conservative parties did surprisingly well in the election yesterday. Voter turnout was a miserable 46% and, as large numbers of younger voters chose not to go to the polling booths this may have contributed to the conservatives' success.
In my eyes the only two good things to result from the election were that a) Lefty tree-hugger Moon Kook Hyun won in his campaign against dodgy old man Lee Jae-oh and b) despite the Grand National Party's win, it looks like they will only go ahead with the grand canal if it's approved in a referendum.
Still, the election results are depressing. I bet all the young Koreans are going to spend the next few years complaining about the new Assembly Members. Serves them right for not voting I say. |

| When I first visited Korea in 1996 there were still massive pro-democracy movements. I wonder why the whole country rolled over and elected the party with pretty well the exact same people who'd been suppressing democracy before. The message from one of the Hannara candidates (who was elected was: "Democracy is not working in Korea. We need a strong leader who can tell the people what to do, and the people must obey the government." |

I'm happy with the results.
The Left had their chance to run this country for the last 10 years... and they had some success, but overall I was dissapointed with a numer of things.
I'm hoping that the Conservatives will be able to correct some of the wrongs. |

Watched the Korean news this morning, and again we have an example of the fantastic work done by the Korean police.
A Korean Teenage girl was allegedly raped by a policeman.
The Number 1 biggest mass shooting murder in the world was....
A Korean policeman
Which OECD country has been number 1 for road deaths due to lack of which police enforcement....
Korean police
Which police force needs the President to intervene to get them to move their butts.....
Korean Police
Which police force turns a blind eye to all the prostitution in the country....
That's right you guessed, it's those funsters at it again, the Korean police.
Don't you just wanna run up and give these guys a great big hug! |

Ditto. I'm happy with the results as well.. time to put some new ideas into practice..
As for the low voter turnout, they just had a big one 3 months ago.. most people just couldn't be bothered to deal with this one which was minor in comparison... |

Why does it matter? The subject seems appropriate for either forum. At least it's a serious subject that has some relevance for people living in Korea ... unlike the majority of the crap that litters these boards day after day. Of all the threads to take issue with, honestly ...

This post has direct relevance to Korea and wow, believe it or not, the policies and actions of Korean politicians and the bureaucracies they control do have an impact on the lives of foreigners living here.
In case you haven't looked recently, the Current Events forum here is about 60% US politics, 20% UFO sightings and 20% other irrelevant crap such as the fact that The Simpsons has been taken off TV in Venezuala and the some Australian man just fathered a kid with his daughter.
If you really don't like this kind of post here then how about if we politely ask the Mods to set up a Forum for discussing Korean politics and society?
