I just got a call from the person in charge of hiring at the hogwan I've applied to. She told me the director is a bit hesitant to hire me because I have no teaching experience... fine, understandble. But then the woman I'm speaking to tells me she is going to lie to the director and say that I do infact have teaching experience and that I am suppose to go along with this..it gets better, then she says the director will call me tommorow and that I am not to mention anything about the call between us to him.
very odd |

Not that odd skip really, the manager has high expectations but is unaware of the reality of how difficult it is to find qualified teachers in Korea, the Supervisor is charged with the task of finding people but cant really convey to him how difficult it is. She's pissed off and needs to fill the position, so she lies to him. Not sketchy, just a political reality, quite cute actually.
But, she has stuck her neck out for you, so don't let her down. |

Sounds like somebody is looking out for you, be thankful. This is how things work in Korea. |

I appreciate her trying to pull some strings for me but I still don't have any teaching experience. I don't know what this guy is expecting of me but I'm gonna do everything I can of course. |

LOL...they all do that. I had one guy writing fake references for me whe I applied to a University. They wanted 2 years University experience since I have no MA. I almost got the position (2 interviews and many follow up calls) until they followed up on the references. The guy told me they were legit, friends of his in "high" places, but he had just made them up and used fake numbers. I was so embarrassed. Oh well... |

Your recruiter is just out for his/her commision.
Stick to your honesty, as you naturally feel more comfortable with it. Its usually the best policy: if you start at a school which doesn't require experience (and there are plenty out there), they will make allowances for you for a while. Do you really want to start out with a lie? I mean it will soon become obvious that you've no experience once you start work anyway....
Koreans are a nation of con artisits, forgers, and corrupt ameteurs who fake just about everything...do you want to join them on this? |

Very clever ploy designed to get you at a lower wage than you really want. Think about it........... |
