Prim Actress Gets Messy in New TV Ad
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200804/200804020013.html
Quote:
Actress Kim Tae-hee has become the talk of the town with a commercial in which she appears with no make-up. The commercial for Olympus Korea emphasizes Kim's natural side. Sporting a mane of untidy hair as if she just woke up, she curls her lips, plays with a teddy bear, frowns, and sucks a lollipop.
The commercial has received a strong response because it shows another side of the actress, who has used the fact that she is intelligent and refined as a graduate of the prestigious Seoul National University to appeal to the public.

The second part of the commercial aired recently following the first segment which debuted early last month. Internet users responded favorably, saying it's good to see the "ordinary side" of the normally more polished actress. "The commercial makes Kim look like one of the people around us. I suddenly came to like her," a user wrote.
With the positive response, it's no surprise that the commercial took the top spot in the electric and electronics category of the TV commercial popularity rankings only 10 days after the first episode aired.

An industry source said that with interest in the second episode also exploding soon after its release, the company is considering creating two more commercials in the same series.

It's debatable whether the media drives fashion or merely reflects it, but either way, the fact that this commercial is so popular may be indicative of a new trend: Korean culture valuing natural beauty. Or is it?
Might we see Korean women not wearing so much makeup? Perhaps even no makeup? Or is this just a fluke?

She might look 'natural' but I seriously doubt that she is not wearing any makeup. Even the men on TV wear makeup.
Pretty, anyway, but what's up with the poochy girly cutey faces? I see some of my middle school students doing these faces when they are trying to be cute. Goddam it's annoying.

They like the ad because the music is about how "I want to taste your banana."

I wonder if she forged her degree from Seoul National University? Anyway, she looks strung out on crack.

Isn't she the woman that was supposedly sent to N. Korea to do Kim Jung Il after the first summit meeting in 2000? My adult students have told me about this meeting. They said that she is suppose to be his favorite actress.

Personally I would like the fashion this summer to be a bit of bare midriff. I have seen it a couple of times here, but not as much as in Australia.

I am hoping the current crop of midriff baring soju ads help this along.

No, that actress Kim Jung Il likes is the one who does all of the Whisen and Xii commercials.

Isn't Kim Tae Hee the actress for the drama which takes place a long time ago in Korea? Also this was supposed to happen about 6 years ago?

I couldn't stomach the thought of watching the ad with sound involved, but I am curious just from the still photos; is there a particular reason she's pretending to be nine?

Pffft. It's a gimmick and it will have no effect on the global cosmetics arms race. And I agree, it's not really no make up, just make up made up no-make-up style.

Really, it's just another example of Kim Taehee cramming it down are throats that she's the officially approved hottest Korean alive. It's just saying, "Look, my eyeball-scorching hotness is not dependent upon mere cosmetics".

Do people really think she's "the hottest Korean alive?" You're joking, right? I mean, Hyori is overrated, but I'd take her over this girl any day of the week.

After seeing a bit of "Love Story in Harvard," she means nothing to me. And the day that Kim Taehee becomes a symbol of "natural beauty" in Korea, I'll eat my own hat.
