Recommend a good documentary. I tend to favour documentaries which are interesting rather than boring. I'm not into conspiracy theories. Nothing super right or left wing either please.

Preferably a movie.

Thank you.

The Fog Of War. Robert MacNamara (spelling?) talking about his time working with the military and his time controlling the military.

Very frank documentary that achieved cinema release.

"Deliver Us From Evil" about paedophilia in the catholic church was harrowing. You just will not believe it.

...and for something a little lighter:

Dogtown & Z-Boys

(NOT "Lords of Dogtown", a Hollywood production based on the former, although you can watch that after...)

The rise of skateboarding in S. Cal in the 70's. Authentic footage, interviews with the main players then & now... as someone who's not at all into skate culture, this movie was nonetheless totally compelling and worth watching more than once. A keeper.

Anything by Errol Morris. Paradise Lost. Brother's Keeper. Project Grizzly. Cane Toads: An Unnatural History. Dancing Outlaw. American Movie. Shoah. Grey Gardens. Touching the Void. Some favorites off the top of my head. I also enjoy Werner Herzog's documentaries, but your sensibilities will determine whether they transfix you or leave you bored to tears.

Nearly all of Herzog, some Errols and much more are available on www.surrealmoviez.info. I get a lot of my documentaries and surrealist films from there. It's a real gem of a place on the internet.

"the rape of Nanking"

Shocking! I had no idea it was on such a grand scale...

The movie is in 2 parts....the first part is mainly about the background and history of the Nanking, the second part is much better but it's so shocking.

Part 1...

"The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief"

i think it's impossible to find a hard copy of the movie. you'd have to either watch it at a film festival or get it off of BitTorrent.

but it's worth it. oh my god is it worth it. it's about the male host clubs in japan...it's fucking twisted and heartbreaking and lonely. one of my favorite documentaries.

I second Thundarr re: "King of Kong"

Also, "Murderball", "Grizzly Man", "Jesus Camp", "Unforgivable Blackness" (about the boxer Jack Johnson).
