|
|
Hi all, I'm just inquiring how easy it is to work in Korea with a contract and pick up extra work at night etc. From you experience, do all contracts have a "can't work for any other company" clause? Do any of you pick up a bit of extra work to supliment your income? If so, is the work easy to come by and how much an hour does extra work pay?
Thanks!!! I would appreciate your feeback. |

For the majority of teachers (E2 visa) it is illegal due to immigration regulations. |

It's going to depend on your personality. If you are a people person and pretty tolerant of this culture and are patient with people who are learning english-e, then it's easy. And you have to be a "go-getter". Side work does not fall into your lap, unless you have a friend who matches the above criteria and he turns you on to some work.
After my first month here, I realized that I could not live comfortably on 2.1. I was 9000 miles away from home and knew what I had to do to make money and I did it. If you have the drive, you can do it too.
I befriended a restaurant ajumma my first week here. After a month she started introducing me to uni students who needed a tutor. Then, the coffee shop ajumma started introducing me to home school ajummas. The home school ajummas started introducing me to other home school ajummas in other apartas. The apartment school ajumma's husbands wanted me to come to their company for lessons in the morning. Before I knew it, my full time job was almost my part time job. Even though I still have a FT job, my privates are my bread and butter. |

To do "extra" work you are going to need both permission from your employer and approval from immigration ...
If you don't have that approval then you run the risk when caught of a heavy fine and deportation from the country after you have paid it. It is illegal with an E2 visa to work for anyone else other than your sponsoring employer ...
Different provisions apply if you are not on an E2 visa.
