Flash Ipanema,
After you get your certified CBC, you do have to take (or mail) it to the SOS to get the Apostille stamp. According to the SOS, it's certified if it has blue ink on it. If it just looks like a photocopy, then the Apostille lady will make you go to DPS.
(I guess I didn't finish my story. After SOS told me go to go DPS, I then had to go back to SOS to take my certified CBC to get the Apostille.)

mine was all in black with the notary seal on it. there is no "raised seal" on notarized docs in texas anymore just a stamp
my advice is hit the sec of states office after rush hour, plenty of places to park on brazos or 10th street, you should only need a quarter for the meter. bring cash or a personal check to pay for it, i tried with my cc, they messed up and i got a bill for it, had my credit union there send a check, they never got it so i'm trying to get the credit union and sec of states office to get together. this was a check sent directly from the bank so it was deducted from the account when it went out |

Did you have to take yours to the DPS too or did they consider yours certified? The only blue on mine is the signature, otherwise it's all black and white. The notary stamp is raised but no seal.
Now that I'm back in the States I should probably start carrying my checkbook in my purse again. |

yeah, you can do it this way - get them online - it's cheaper and faster - totally acceptable. I received an E2 after doing mine and having an affidavit that I signed notarized by the US Embassy in Seoul.
if you aren't in K but overseas, might be a little more difficult, here our Embassy is familiar with the bureaucratic red tape in K - anyway, no fingerprints are necessary, is timeconsuming and costs more. |
Doing it online like that - how long does it take to get it back?
Also, can you get this done ahead of time, or do you have to have something from the school requesting a check be performed? |

I just printed mine for the texas website after paying $3. Not much info except big bold lettering that says NO MATCHING RECORDS for my name and birth date. Will immigration take this as well as the embassy? |

doing it online it's available immediately.
I printed mine in color at Kinko's so it looks nicer and more "official."
then you make an affidavit swearing you didn't change anything, that this is what it says it is, give the website, etc. if you research here on Dave's you'll find a proper affidavit - it's on one of the earlier CBC threads
DON'T sign the affidavit. you take the CBC, the affidavit, and your pp to the US Embassy and pay 30,000 won; they will then ask you to sign it in front of them and they provide a notarized letter saying it's your signature on there.
you have just signed and had notarized that this CBC is true and accurate under penalty of perjury.
yes, K immi accepts them. I have an E2 to prove it. |

Oh my. Do you think this will work? I just performed a check and when it said "NO MATCHING RECORDS" I thought I had made a mistake and went back. haha did I just waste 3 bucks?
edit: nevermind, "previous searches" is available on the right hand side. |

I had my fingerprints done in Korea, at a police station. The police were a little angry because we woke them up at 1 pm and they had to change out of their pj's and brush their teeth, but it only took a few minutes to get it done.
Oh, and all of this talk about Austin makes me homesick.
God Bless Texas. |

Just got home from an evening with my mom: wine and tapas at Malaga, entertainment at Esther's Follies, followed by dessert and cognac at the Driskill Hotel - ha! I love being home!

That implies it's getting done in Korea, yes? |

Update: I took my CBC to the SOS office today and it took less than 5 minutes. Apparently mine was certified and they didn't make me go to the DPS. I'm guessing the blue ink merrilee referred to earlier was the signature, since that's the only blue ink on my paper and it was fine. |

Uh, I just got my visa last week. I live in Houston, and all I did for the CRC was go to the main HPD police station on Travis and pay them $10 for my background check. I asked them to notarize it. 10 min later, I was walking out with it.
Then I mailed it out to Austin for the apostille, which I had back within 4 days. |
