I'm curious about the standard overtime rates in Korea, and how they vary between types of institutions. How much do you earn for working overtime?

My overtime rate is a joke. 30K/hour at a university in a tenure track position. The take on it is that the university expects us to 'sacrifice' for the good of the school. Translation: they don't want to hire more professors, and it helps their accreditation rating process if tenure track Ph.D.s are teaching more courses.

End Rant...

The contract I have been given is for 16 hours a week. However, the school can force me to work up to another 5 hours per week which I have no choice about. It may as well be part of the contract but it lets them play around with schedules when demand is low. My overtime pay is 35,000 or 36,000 based on whether it is during a 5- or 7-week block of classes.

I also get the chance, and want the chance, to tutor business students from the university who are applying overseas and want personal training. They pay the school and the school pays me 40,000 per hour.
Apparently I can work as much overtime as I can convince the students to pay for.

My public school contract specifies W6,000/hr. for overtime. Shocked

I don't do overtime. Cool

20,000 at my HS, 25,000 at my MS although, it isn't strictly OT as the classes I teach are within my contracted hours, so it's basically extra cash for simply teaching at school when I'm supposed to be there anyway.

How come the poll does not have a place for over 20,000 at a university?

Isn't that a stat that should certainly be on there?

It definitely should! But Dave's only gives you a certain number of options in response to a poll, and I ran out. So I'll just count on those lucky ones earning that much to leave messages. Smile
