I'm Canadian. I by no means feel that I can only live in Canada or Korea. Quite the contrary, in fact.
OP: why did you assert that this was the case for Canadians? I can't say I've met too many people who feel this way. |
Because everywhere I look, I hear and see Canadians. I meet foreigners and they are Canadians. I frequent other message boards and they are Canadians. |
And that means that Canadians only come to Korea?
Awesome logic there man. |

Dude, we hear you loud and clear: YOU HATE KOREA. Now stop being a mental case by not asking other people to echo your sentiment. There are people who are happy here and making a good living. Many CHOOSE to be here despite the drawbacks.
If you do indeed continue to post long after you've left Korea like you say, you seriously need psychiatric assistance. |

Why is it always, Canada sucks so I HAVE to work in Korea?

It's official....you suck. |
Not merely as much as you and your Southern cohorts.
Compared to the Northeast the South has much higher rates and incidences of poverty, crime, religious lunacy, obesity and just about everything else. I think you guys suck a lot more than we Yanks. |
I'm technically from the "South", even though Florida is a complete different entity. I went to university in NC. At that time the Research Triangle Park area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) had the highest concentration of people holding PHD degress per demographic population in the entire country. Your stab at the South equating to lesser quality of life is unjustified and proves what little you actually know about America. |

Yeah, it was interesting in that Canucks flamed Koreans for being nationalistic, yet they were hypocrites because Canucks were like "Notice me, notice me, I'm Canadian and different from American; how? I'm not American." It's funny Canucks talked about Koreans being insecure when they are guilty, if not more so, of the same thing.
At the time, I was reading about how just about anyone with half a brain was leaving Canada. I hear the U.S. is the receipient of Canadian nurses, as most go to the U.S. after receiving their training in Canada. I also heard a stat that said 1/3 of all Canadian doctors were considering going south of the border. I also saw a few posts about people worried about the brain drain that Canada experienced and such.
That said, Americans now account for most E-2 visa holders. |
Either your memory, or your source is faulty. Canada, in the 90's, was all hyped up to be in this tremendous 'brain drain' you are going on about. It never happened. Look it up yourself, the stats are there.
When I came here in 2001, 90% of the people i worked and socialized with were American. Now, i'd say the numbers are more evenly distributed among the big 5.
And your argument about Canadians citing Non-Americanism for their pride is a fallacy. Any sober Canadian will tell you how they are different from an American. Don't confuse resentment with insecurity. |

I think it kind of fits: both are backwaters. Koreans and Canadians get along pretty well.
Canada is to America as Korea is to Japan. You get the picture.
Anyhow, Canadians are generally poorly cultured and travelled. There's little diversity there, and no cultural sophistication, so they wind up seeing Korea as this advanced, urban metropolis. They're not into critical thinking, so don't consider the social or complex issues. |

I was not talking about the UNC.
Rather I was talking about the population as a whole.

Additionally there tend to be great regional differences within the US with New England having a violent crime and homicide rate comparable to that of most other developed nations, while southern states were among the most violent. |
Quote: |
Crime rates vary greatly across the states. Overall, New England had by far the lowest crime rates, for both violent and property crimes. New England states also had the lowest homicide rates in the country. Densely populated states such as New York and New Jersey also had crime rates well below the national average. Southern states had the highest overall crime rates. Crime can also be isolated to one particular part of a state. Lafayette, Louisiana, for instance had only 6 murders per 100,000 people in 2004, while New Orleans, Louisiana, had 32.5 murders per 100,000 people. |

This one's cause I'm laughing
Been to a couple, including what Canadian propoganda calls "the most diverse city in the world," Toronto. What a joke: a city of 4 million the most diverse in the world? More diverse than New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, or Miami? You should get the idea (unless you are Canadian). I saw a lot of white immigrants, though; I guess having large populations of Italians, Greeks, and Ukrainians means a city is diverse... |
