Ok, most people on this forum will see me chiming in on the dog'eating threads and all and figure I hate animals - but that'd be pretty far from the truth.

I love 'em.

And this video pisses me off.

Honestly...I can understand it. If I ever got to the point where I could kill other humans (and I don't think I could unless they were breaking down my front door), tossing a puppy off a cliff really wouldn't phase me a bit. Why he did it I don't know. But, I am saying I can understand why in his situation it doesn't seem to matter to him. I am sure he has seen enough dead kids on the roadside where tossing a puppy off a cliff is like swatting a mosquito.

What a barstard.

I know that conflict can have a harmful effect on a soldiers mind and he may be a good person yet do despicable things in the heat of battle but this is pre-meditated and the idiot put it on the internet. What did he think was going to happen?

Immediate court martial. I know George Carlin said it in respect to the Police but it goes for any of the services, there are only two requirements for entry - intelligence and decency.

Truth is indeed stranger than fiction, I don't think even Chris Morris could have come up with this.

Why did he do that? Obviously he wasn't going to eat it, or use it for target practise.
If he didn't want the puppy, just leave the dog alone on the street where he saw it.

But, I did kind of find the video humorous.

See, I can kind of get that. You kill X amount of people, you start to have a certain disregard for life.

What I wonder is; when does the disregard for suffering come into it?

I mean, if I saw a puppy on the side of the road starving, I'd be more prone to putting it down quickly than having fun killing it.

I saw a documentary about Iraq awhile back and it said the soldiers can be seriously reprimanded for giving anything to the (starving) kids who approach their vehicles. Wondering why? Because so many kids were accidentally getting ran over by the convoys. I think once you see a kid get hit by a Humvee a puppy probably really doesn't mean much to you. I am not excusing his behavior. Just saying I think our perspective on what qualifies as suffering compared to that guys is probably very different. Who knows what a soldier sees or does in war and how they will choose to deal with it. Had he done that to a human I would be all for prosecuting him but ruining a persons life over a puppy? I dont agree with that. Punish him...make an example of him. I think he probably already figured out what he did was pretty stupid.

I think it is sad the guy decided to put it on the internet. He probably had no idea it would get such a negative reaction.

Many soldiers have done things that are far worse, but probably look back on their actions with disgust. This guy is 22, old enough to know better but certainly in the future will think it was a horrible thing to do.

But really to video it was stupid, he can't expect to keep his position after that. He has brought the army into disripute, he has played up the stereotype of US troops being ignorant jocks. That's why I would court martial him, not for moral reasons but for being an idiot and creating anti-US sentiment.

As an English teacher if I put up a clip on you tube of me pissing on a tramp or puking in an alleyway would I expect to keep my job?

I must admit though it was humourous, and I wish dearly it was a hoax. I am not a tree hugger and I don't put animal life before humans but still it was a sick thing to do.

With the current lack of teaches, you could probably keep your job after that Smile

I remember my grandfather telling me that when he was young, unwanted puppies would be tied in sacks and thrown in the river to drown. I thought that was a bit harsh but at least it wasn't done as a form of entertainment.

You guys are a bunch of douche bags.

You hate the guy enough to wish he was dead.. Uhm you are a bunch of hypocrites.

Bunch of arm chair judges you are. The guy was propably shot at and he shot back, good chance is that he has killed some one as well. a puppy is the least of his worries.

May I also remind you that the amount of soldiers commiting suicide is also sky rocketing. If any thing you should feel sorry for this guy. He will have serious issues when he returns to civi life.

Yeah I think that it was pretty morbid for what he did but its not anything worse then what I had to do to animals. I worked on a farm, unwated animals were killed. Stray cats or dogs carrying disease had to be shot. I had to kill kittens by drowning them in a burlap sack. I had to do it because the alternatives were much worse. I had to shoot a horse because it broke and sheered its leg right off. Calves that were malformed had their necks snaped. Ever seen a slaughterhouse? you know what they do their?

Shit ever see a sow eat its own offspring? I have. The world is a cruel place it isn't peaches and cream. Its easy to bitch/complain/redicule/ostrisize/criticize some one or something when your own ass is behind a false wall of political correctness and cushy a life.

I feel sorry for this guy I hope his commending officer pulls this guy aside and gets him serious counseling. Unfortunatley the US military doesn't have the greatest counceling history.

I have not seen anybody write that they wish this man dead. I think that death threats are over the top. But you can't say thast the terrible things a soldier goes through gives them a licence to inflict cruelty on whomever they wish.

Many people are aware of how cruel the world can be, and sometimes animals must be put down to end their misery. I am sure when you drowned the kittens you had to numb youself to it as it could not have been easy, I doubt you did it with a smile on your face and videotaped it to brag about it on youtube.

There is enough uncontrollable cruelty in the world without adding to it with callous acts of cruelty. There was no reason to throw the puppy off the cliff. None at all.
