Hi Guys,
I know this has been asked plenty of times, but the search is not working, and I have never needed the answer until now, therefore, I never read the posts.
I am wondering what the procedure is for paying taxes upon your return to Canada after working one year in Korea. I was told that technically you have to claim what ever tax bracket you fall into in Canada, ie. if I make about 30,000 CAD while in Korea, I have to claim roughly 28% of that, which would be somewhat of a detterent in going.
Has anyone actually ever paid taxes on what they earned in Korea when they returned to Canada? |

As far as I know, because you pay taxes in Korea you do not need to file a return in Canada...
(Unless you've made additional money in Canada, in which case you would need to file a return based on that amount) |

ok are SUPPOSED to pay taxes back home in Canada, claiming what you make only if you plan to return home...you can file for non-residency and that is the only time you can get out of paying taxes back home...
however, if you don't claim you'll get caught if you get audited...chances of you getting audited...if you worked up to a certain point back home before coming to Korea and have that to claim, then there is clearly a lesser chance of you being audited...
but there is a risk nonetheless...so choose as you please |

answers everything nicely...if you don't feel like you owe anything...you don't claim it...if you feel like your a non-resident, then you'll be fine...it's a case by case basis... |
