My buddy let me know it was up yesterday and my sweet ratio is still there:
1.35 TB uploaded
144.6 gb downloaded
Ratio 9.54

I remember when I used to work at a high school for a couple of years that I downloaded with the computer there and let it run 24-7 hence the great ratio!

I find Demonoid to work pretty well for me. Bitmetv still seems to be the fastest DL for tv programs, but its hard to keep the ratio up.

I think bitmetv sucks in so many ways. On other trackers I can go full out on my upload bandwidth. Its like they limit people. I find it really hard to get more than 1:1 on a tvrip. I also hate people get away with staying leechers and only seeding back a certain part of the file...they get priority in uploading that way.

For 99% of my tv show needs I use newsgroups.

How do you use newsgroups?

Not everybody has access to private trackers (or wants to shell out for newsgroups). That leaves a lot of people lacking doesn't it?

True, if you have varied membership to say 6-10 great private trackers, you might be able to cover most base you could conceive of but the fact of the matter is that most people simply don't have that. And that's where Demonoid filled a gap.

What put Demonoid a notch above from other public trackers were:

1. Editable comments on torrents with picture support from both the uploader and the leechers. Members commented regularly and with useful info unlike sites like Mininova where a torrent might have 10,000 downloads and not a single comment. Also has a good PM system for reseed requests.

2. Hard working staff that quickly removed fakes, rar password protected files, porn etc. You could be reasonably assured that what you downloaded was going to be what was advertised.

3. An excellent forum that included many FAQs, tutorials, discussion forums, invite requests

4. Pretty decent categorization system that made it easy to find what you were looking for. Able to sort by seeds, dead/alive torrents/genre of movie/bitrate of music/etc...

5. It was POPULAR which meant that there was usually plenty of seeds and leechers around. Also lots of active old and new "season packs" -Simpsons, Lost, Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder etc etc. Lots of activity. It also had a (albeit dodgy) ratio system which meant n00bs could work up a decent ratio and ask for invites to more exclusive trackers.

6. Dedicated uploaders. Demonoid had a good community feel and people wanted to give back and help out. Many 'legendary' uploaders such as AXXO, Darkside RG and the other groups (don't remember the name) that released KVCDs etc mostly used Demonoid. Again, you knew who the uploader was (by their user name and account) so you could be sure it wasn't some lame imitator.

7. To some extent, it had excellent niche areas such as e-books and foreign language/obscure films that might be difficult to find (or find in well seeded condition) on private trackers. Demonoid actually had quite a selection of Korean movies...

Anyway, sure there are other points too. It was the best (semi) PUBLIC tracker imo.

Good summary, wormholes. Demonoid has easily been my favorite 'big' tracker so far.

FYI, BTjunkie has been great recently for 720p and 1080p files.

I love demonoid because you could find hard to find things.. The niche thing is the bomb.

I will concede that not everyone might want to shell out cash for newsgroups. I think I pay $40 every 3 months for unlimited access/SSL access and 10 connections. I can download from Korea at like 1MB/s to 2.5MB/s...not too shabby.

The argument about private trackers I just don't get. Sure some are "super l33t" to be apart of, and in most cases you couldn't keep up to the guys paying for 100Mbit seedboxes.

However, being in Korea where the internet is absolutely amazing, I fail to see how anyone can NOT be an excellent seeder. I got cable modem connection and have my upload going at like 1MB/s 24/7. Those who live in apartments with 100Mbit, you could prolly have 2-3MB/s 24/7 if you wanted.

Get on one private tracker, get a good seed record and when ppl offer up invites, guess who they will pick: those with excellent records. Takes time, but not that hard if you play the game right.

I find for Asian stuff BitHQ and ADC pretty much fill that void. I can also hit up D-Addicts.

As I posted earlier, Bitmetv has almost everything TV, the problem is seeding is actually work...it is really really hard to get a good ratio on that site as many people have fast pipes aka seedboxes.

I wasn't really trying to be snobby, just I don't get what is great about a tracker that offers everything and though it is invite only now, they don't seem to have a membership cap. Seems they are a perfect target for the recording industry and movie industry. Guess I don't like to work on getting a good ratio to have a site go down...which Demo has quite a bit.

Not sure what your problem is.. but I use rss feed, and when I get home from work my ratio on most torrents is 3+

I guess that's ok... after getting the new pc I can get 2MB/S on things just released... on older things I can get 9-10 MB/S. Must be the new VISTA since my old pc was down in the 1MB/S range.

Finally been getting my ratio up as well. Maybe one of these days, I'll actually have a good enough ratio to get an invite to give away.... Razz

Also means you got kickass internet speeds. I am pretty sure I have pushed my connection to the max which is 2.5MB/s down and 1.5MB/s up

See I don't mind pirating some stuff but I refuse to pay for it because mostly I can't afford it. When you pay for pirated shit that means you can afford thus you should pay for it.

Demonoid didn't go down because of the criaa it went down cause the guy was to busy for the site.
