I'm not JAD, and i don't know who he is. so don't mention about it. well .... I respect english teachers. thanks for your boundless energy in teaching english in korea. but show some respect toward korean and their culture. you know the difference between cultural relativism and ethnocentrism. Korea has its own unique culture. Korea needs to be accept Global manner and at the same time you have to try to understand korean culture and people. For example, if you call korean saying 'Hey' , its big disrespectful way of treating people. you guys are all diplomat of your countries and the way you act can generalize the people of your countries. so when you are in foreign country, be careful in every single word and behavior. Don't forget many koreans watching this board and it might spread negative view toward english teachers in korea. its my last message. i'm leaving here. BYE.

Wise words.
Maybe you would have had a better time on these boards without the antagonistic thread topics.
You have to realise that we are sick of being stereotyped negatively over here, and we get sensitive about certain topics. |

Dude, didn't you make at least three different threads detailing your infatuation with Russian/Eastern European women?
That's how you entered this forum. No problem, you were curious and all and wanted more information. And nobody really hated on you.
Then you decided to go on and discuss how Korean people felt about English teachers. I'm not sure who appointed you ambassador, but it's all good. You expressed your opinion and that's fine.
But then your last few threads started to get a little more, oh I don't know, "judgmental".
And you lost me there.
You think "Korean women will stop wanting to date you after seeing Daniel Henning" or "Teacher's suck, why not be a soldier" threads secretly exhibited your contempt for some of us.
While I agree that some of the tone on this board is nausiating from time to time, and the negativity does get a bit much.
You have to realize that many aspects of Korea and it's culture are insane. I'm sorry, but cultural relativism aside, Korea can straight up be f-u-ck-ed up at times.
Everything from:
- shady azz hagwon bosses ripping us off with little recourse to protect our rights (which is really most foreigners initial introduction to this country and its culture..no wonder why so many English teachers grow to be bitter here)
- to Korean males cockblocking us on the dance floor or calling are girlfriends whores on the street
- to the fact that the law will almost always favor the Korean (gyopos get screwed on this as well) over the foreigner.
- to the massive levels of prostitution and alcoholism (yet foreigners are the womanizers and alcoholics )
- to the country going ape shi-t over unfortunate traffic accidents
- to a nation suffering from a massive inferiority complex masked by a sometimes in -your-face superiority complex
- to a nation easily riled up by nationalist sentiments against foreigners and foreign countries, while at the same time failing to put equal distain against the fact the North Korean regime is currently treating large numbers of Korean like garbage, that former Presidents' and current Chaebol companies owe much of their existence to Japan and its money, and the fact that prior to the annexation of Korea this country was a cesspool that treated the majority of its citizens as slaves. (sorry for the run-on sentence) |

There's nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade, and if there's something that drives me nuts about this country then I have every right to express myself.
Now are our home countries perfect. Hell no!! (except for Canada
But lets also keep it real here. Western culture and money dominates this planet. Like it or not, thats the way it is.
Secondly, South Korea as a nation wouldnt exist if it werent for Western intervention, primarily from the good old U S of A.
Finally, Korea and many other countries pay natives from a select few countries to come over here and teach English. A language that also dominates the globe culturally and economically.
This is where a lot of this elitism probably stems from.
Theres also a noticeable difference in the dating and marriage scene in regards to Western men/Asian women and Asian men/Western women.
I also think this aspect gets to a lot of foreign males heads and adds to their feelings of superiority.
I'm not trying to be rude here, I'm just simply trying to explain what makes some of us tick. |

One final point:
The language barrier is also another reason for some of the problems here.
Korean is not an easy language to learn. And to become fluent in it or at least be able to express yourself in an intelligent and mature manner, you need years of study.
Add to the fact that most English teachers here work full time, learning this language can be quite tough.
As a result neither side (English teachers or local Koreans) have little chance to truely interact with one another. Although if this was possible it could also creat some more problems as I think many foreigners would be dead set against playing the Confusion card. |

You are also coming on here representing your country. Maybe you want to think about that before posting?
