Hi everyone:

Just wanted to see the process of renewing my f-2. What documents do you need. Is it easy. This is the first time I have to renew so I don't know what is going on. Does my wife need to be there. Is it in and out very fast deal? Thanks for the info.

I am interested in this too, since I have to renew this year. As far as I have been able to find out all you need to do is still fill out the same forms except the bank account info.

I can't quite remember it has been a while. I think your wife has to be there and fill out that sponsor affidavit at the notary's office before you go and take a new printed hojuk (family census) and that's it. It is easier and done on the spot. They just put a new date in one of the little corners on the back of your card. Oh, and it will be for 2 or 4 years this time instead of one year.

I have to go next month to Suwon immigration to re-new my F2-1. The wife will call Suwon immigration and see what documents we need a few days before our journey there.

That's the smart thing to do. Things might have changed and/or rules vary from office to office.

bring everything and more that they say you need because it all depends on who you get at the desk. Last time I brought nearly every document in our file folder just in case, and it was a good thing I did because the guy at the counter asked for everything. He was an asshole.

Take all the paperwork you needed to get your visa in the first place. Each time I went they also told us we needed one paper and when we got there they said they needed more paperwork.

exactly. And immigration is one place you don't want to have to return because you don't have one lousy document!

What's their slogan now? KISS - Korean Immigration Smart Service?? Gimme a break.

You don't even have to be there, just send your wife to renew it for you.

Having recently been to the Suwon office myself, you might have your wife call Suwon AND the immigration office in Seoul. We got different stories about which documents were necessary for the F-2-1, so when the woman in the Suwon office asked us for documents which Seoul had said weren't necessary, we just said that "the Team-jang, Ms. So-and-So in Seoul said we didn't need to bring that." Done and done.

(Two by-the-ways: one, the "Team-jang" in Seoul is very accomodating, and two, the renewal is probably easier than the initial application, so all of this may be moot.)

I just applied for my F-2-1, and they said it was four years straight away. I guess the rules continue to change.

The Korean Herald cited that member of parliment with the PHd from Cornell who was appointed to the education ministry. Anyway, I read the original article on Daves, but it was at least 6 weeks ago.

How the FCUK is it possible that this afternoon, when my wife renewed my F-2, I was given a single year extension instead of the the 2-4 years others have boasted of, and was told that the rules 'depend'.

The idiot immigration officer also said that the 3-year rule for F-5 applications still stands. WTF!?

You can 'depend' my ass Korea, that and a whole lot more.
