No matter why those two girls were there or what they were doing, they were still human beings. Even if they sold themselves does it make them any less human? I don't really think so. They still had families, they still had feelings, they didn't deserve to be murdered. Imagine if these were your daughters or sisters or cousins. How would you feel? |

Look, you're not making some speech in a movie. Most of the rest of us probably have sisters, too. Your canned speech made me want to gag. Please, not all of us think you're special and some ultra intellectual. Relax, partner....we're all human here. |

Some of you guys must have been drunk when posting.
I read the thai article and also some of your comments and what I got from it is a couple of girls who convinced their mum that they would be studying in England for a year and then did the old switch and went to thailand and were supported financially by the old mum who was oblivious.
Is it possible, sure. I knew girls from Japan studying in Australia who were disowned by the father for leaving home while not married but supported by the mum.
Were the girls in this case prostitutes? Unless you have more information than I saw, nothing would really support that. Maybe just richer and more naive than westerners, but so are many asians.
Some of your comments are rude and thats why it doesn't go down well with some people especially when discussing the dead.
Though in my experience, I have never met the type of people who make such comments in public as I am one who does and the reaction that I get is quite extreme and in all my years here, I don't remember meeting anyone who can beat me for lack of tact and in your face forthrightness.
Therefore you must be drunk or hiding behind the monitor. Oh I have meet a troll in person but he was an idiot and didn't know what he was saying, plus I didn't really care as he wasn't even close to being as insulting as I can be. |

You know what, pal, it doesn't matter where the speech is, people honor the dead, and they don't joke about it. Instead of echoing that, you decide to take a shot at me. I really don't care, and I truly offer my condolences for the family. I don't really care about being an ultra-intellectual. If you think you are better than me in that capacity, then knock yourself out with that mental prize. Desecrating the dead in mind or in deed repulses me. I am sure some of the posters didn't intend it that way; I understand.
Maybe, you could think about that. I still think what if someone made fun of one of my sisters after she died. Even if, God forbid, a sister engaged in prostitution she would still be the sister that I love. And if it sounds corny to you, pal, so be it. I am sure it wouldn't to their grieving mother and father. Think about that... Think for one moment if you were their mother. If you want to gag over this one, too, go ahead. |

| So you think there is a chance the women's mother or family visits Dave's ESL Cafe? If not, then who are you worried about offending? I don't get your concern. It's like if we made jokes about how many Ethiopians can fit in a shower. None, they keep slipping down the drain. Oh no! What will the Ethiopians say! Seems like you really don't have anything to be concerned about, if the mother or brother or whoever couldn't figure out in 2 years time that these industrious young ladies weren't in England, not likely she'll be browsing the current events forum. |

You have no idea how often this site gets translated into Korean, do you?

Why would you make jokes about Ethiopians, though? Maybe it's a shock to you that some people don't enjoy jokes about starving people or murdered women.
ETA: Seems they might not have been murdered?
You don't have to censor yourself, but it's something to take into consideration.

I remember losing my cousin in a horrible way. I wouldn't wish anyone to lose a family member in a horrible way. |
Yeah, there's really nothing about this story that calls for irreverent sarcasm.
If some Korean politician had made a moronic, nationalist statement about this(eg. "Such an awful fate would never have befallen these girls if they'd stayed in the Land Of Four Seasons"), then some satirical commentary would be more than justified. As it stands, though, it's just a story about two people meeting a violent and tragic end. If your dislike of Korea is such that you find this story an apt excuse for venting against the entire culture, you should probably give serious thought to living somewhere else. |
I just speculated they worked in the hospitality industry. Seeing as they come from the world's #1 sex trade economy, I think it is a reasonable guess. |
My first thought wasn't that they worked in the sex-trade industry. My first thought was that they skipped out with college money to Thailand to go soak up the sun on the beach. That's just as likely, don't you think, in a place where beaches and tourism is also highly ranked? |

No, actually, it's not just as likely. If for example, we were talking about two Norweigan or British female twins, it would be much more likely the two were beach bums. We are talking about two Korean women, who have spent 2 years in a country that is a) famous for it's sex tourism b) that is famous for servicing Korean men c) where Korean men are partial to using the services of Korean women d) 4% of Korea's GDP is from prostitution. Koreans don't like to sun tan. They think it makes them look like Africans. White skin is prized. Koreans like 3-5 day visits to places like Thailand. By then, they are sick of the local cuisine, if they've actually eaten any, and cutting in line to get back to Incheon ASAP.
BTW, sorry about the starving ethiopians joke. hope that no ethiopian netizens translated it, I would be mortified. |

Fair enough. In these situations, I try to not to judge...but you could be right. |

There are times to make wisecracks, and there are times to keep it shut. Knowing this difference is what separates us from the animals. 2 murdered sisters qualifies for basic decency to be observed.

I totally agree. The attitude of some posters is rather sickening. How hurt and sickened they would themselves feel if they themselves were to lose precious loved ones and then discover that others had been talking about them in such a foul and disrespectful way. These tossers need a lesson in empathy. |

I seriously doubt they were prostitutes. I just don't see two sisters going into business like that.
It probably happened just like British student who was hit over the head, gangraped, and drowned.

Yes. Although I found the "There are times to make wisecracks, and there are times to keep it shut. Knowing this difference is what separates us from the animals." part a bit funny. What if that were really the case with animals?

I suppose Koreans don't like to go skydiving. They think they might fall out of the harness. Or maybe Koreans don't like to eat fried chicken. They think it makes them fat. Any more wildly unsupported ideas about Koreans out there? there must be some good ones... |
