Hi!

Everything's coming along pretty well, and I'm scrambling to get all of my documents in a row for application to SMOE and EPIK. I'm applying to live in Busan, Incheon, and Daegu for EPIK. Thanks again to everyone on here for all your help... it has been invaluable.

Anyway, I was wondering about the mechanics of applying to both of these programs. Can I use the same essay? Of course I have to fine-tune it a bit for each, but I don't see the point in writing different essays for these similar programs.

Also, as far as "sealed transcripts" go, I'm linguistically confused. Mine came in the mail open as a window in summer. They do, however, have a university stamp. Could this be what "sealed" means or do I have to send away for new transcripts?

I like that SMOE gives 21 vacation days as opposed to EPIK's 14, but the more I read about Incheon, Busan, and Incheon the more tempting they sound. I wonder if SMOE and EPIK will be less likely to seriously consider me knowing that I'm applying to both. Surely that must happen all the time!

Oh... and one more small item... I recently had cosmetic surgery. It was an outpatient procedure. Let's just say that my nose looks far more nose-like and far less beak-like as a result. Must I list this on my medical form? I'd rather not, obviously.

Everything's coming along, slowly but surely. I've been watching Korean dramas to prepare. They indicate that I will find my true love and/or die of a tragic disease.

You do NOT have to worry about applying to both SMOE and EPIK. Neither one will know if you are applying to the other one unless you tell them or for some reason you use the same recruiter and the recruiter tells them. I told SMOE I was considering other jobs, they wanted me and it was no problem.

You can use the same essay, they don't communicate with each other at all. SMOE hardly communicates with itself sometimes, though its getting better. Just don't send an essay to SMOE stating "Why I want to work for EPIK..."

Transcripts for Immigration need to be sealed with the university seal stamped over the envelope's seal and unopened.

I can understand why some people might prefer Busan to Seoul, but Incheon? No way in hell. See Cohiba's FFF rule for info about living outside of Seoul.

Thanks for the input. I didn't know that SMOE and EPIK were that disconnected. I should have guessed it, though. Their websites are different enough. SOMEs is all streamlined and easy to understand, whereas EPIKs seems like a mess.

As for Incheon youre right, it would not be my first choice. I put Daegu as my second choice after Busan, which looks nice from what Ive seen from books. Its so hard to guess these things with such limited and often conflicting information.

I applied to both, no worries. I think the essay question was a little different but I used the meat of one essay for the other.
