Bothered? No, just not going to sign it. All the specifics though in this contract I have seen made me wonder just WHY they were being specific, and what they had been through to make themselves so anal in the contract.
I've never met you. You could be the most reasonable person there is off line. Here, you aren't. Don't assume things about me that you don't know about, such as I am bothered because I am obviously not a great employee. That's certainly not true. |

| As Austin & Sangja implied - it's good to have a contract that's clear & you know the rules. BUT from what you tell us - it seems that the contract focuses on negative aspects as opposed to general ones. This as mentioned before, most likely means that they have been burned, and thus, their attitude towards future teachers will also have been affected. It sounds as if they may have the ol' spy cameras out & informers at the ready, to check out the 'new' teacher. Personally, it sets too many alarm bells ringing... Your first (gut) feeling often turns out to be the best guide... |

| Right. Exactly. Thank you Alvin. Like I have been meaning to say, this is the first contract I have seen that has really laid it out about the don'ts. And to me, that seems a bit odd. Feel bad for the company who may have gone through hell and back with past employees, but that kind of thinking makes me want to remain a non-employee of that company. |

There is nothing wrong with you changing your tune.
Is it safe to say you no longer seem to think that their contract is "dodgy" for being specific?
Quite an unfair accusation to level against that "Top" school.
Contrary to what another poster suggested, those stipulations and conditions were not focused on negative matters. They were focused on procedure and policy.
If you wanted a discussion on contracts, you could have left out the name of the school.
Trying to portray that school in a "negative" light on this forum is rather weak.

I apologize, if you think I was being patronizing. However, I did not appreciate you implying that the school merited "black-listing" or that it was dodgy.
If you are not changing your tune, would you mind explaining what is so "dodgy" about contracts that are specific?
Many posters here comment on contracts being too vague.
Again, if you stand by what you stated, which is it?

So maybe dodgy is the wrong word; the contract is not dodgy (as in shifty, shady, or unreliable), it is clear.
But while it may be clear, it doesn't sound like that particular contract is indicative of a place I'd like to work. Maybe that's just me- I've never worked at McD's or in a sweatshop, so perhaps my standards are a bit high. |

Yeah, that sounds incredibly reasonable!
I can appreciate those that would not sign certain contracts for any and all possible reasons. However, to come on here and post that "Top" school is "dodgy," because of the "clear" policies in their contract is libelous!
As a former moderator, one might think that you would recognize such a post.

The libelous comment was directed at what Katydid had posted (you are welcome for the comedy).
I have no problem with people not liking any and every contract. However, to suggest that "Top" should be "black-listed" or that a school is "dodgy" simply because a person does not agree with their policies is grossly unfair.
That type of exaggeration is analogous to many of the posts that are found here.
My question to you remains.
Were you comparing "Top" school to a sweatshop or a fast-food restaurant because of the details within their contract?
My apologies for insulting you, I thought you used to be a moderator.

I said two things:
1) I didn't like the conditions of the contract and wouldn't want to work there.
2) Maybe I have high standards because I've never worked in McD's or a sweatshop.
Saying I have high standards isn't 'libelous' and your inference that I'm comparing this school to a sweatshop is just that- an inference, an assumption. What you read between my lines is not my concern as far as libel law goes, I believe.

Does "you're a moderator" = insult on this board these days?
