One of my neighbours has a cat. *beep* knows who they are or where they are but the beast has been crying for two days straight.

The people are obviously not here. It's on the next floor from me and is loud enough to irritate me. It's echoing down the stairwell. *beep* knows how the other people on the next floor up are putting up with the noise but it's still there. They haven't taken any action

Landlord lives on the top level.

Would it be normal practice to ask the landlord to do something about it or will it fall on deaf ears (no pun intended).

I'm kind of hoping that it dies sometime soon rather than the owners coming back and having to do this again.

I'm pretty sure with a bit of jiggling my key would open their door but then what would I do with a cat? Plus the risk of getting spotted opening their door would be pretty high.

What to do?

I seriously doubt you could open the door in that fashion. If it's bothering you I'd tell the landlord to sort it.

Chuck it some food through the letter box, it'll stop crying and also you'll save the poor fella's life.

Or lace it with rat poison for a humanitarian end to its poor life, and improve yours.

Well, let me say, you did the right thing by logging into Dave's ESL cafe and asking for advice from the many helpful foreigners here first.

Now, go get yourself a pair of ear-plugs.

I hope someone takes care of the cat. It's not the cat's fault that the owners are idiots. If you can, ask the landlord about it. I'm sure the landlord doesn't want to hear from the others or have the dead cat smell lofting about either.

Just for the record, I don't really think you should poison the cat.

A better idea is to buy some mice at a pet store and put those in the mail slot to give the cats something to do.

Good advice but the door hasn't a "mail slot". Personally, if mine had a mail slot or a cat door I'd request a new (solid) door w/out those features...I'd be too afraid someone could pour gasoline into my apt and light a match.

It quitened down last night around 12 or 1.

Not sure if the people came back or not or if it's dead.

I will leave a note written in korean asking them to take better care of their animal and to not let it make so much noise again.

I will stick the note to the door with a knife though just to get the point home
