Could anyone give me an estimate on the cost of the average return flight to Beijing? I have been quoted 550,000, which I'll pay if I have to, but it does seem a little steep. How much of a premium do you think there'll be at the time of the Olympics? |

I had in mind a wonderful weekend away at the Olympic Games but my plans have been scuppered, it seems, by capitalism at its most rampant!
For those outside China, it seems you are supposed to buy your tickets from the official ticketing partner in your country. I looked into this and prices were very, very fair- I'm talking 10-20 dollars. Unfortunately, they are all sold out for the events I wish to see.
Is this because of phenomenal demand? I don't think so. Looking elsewhere, you can find tickets costing 100s of dollars. Yes, ticket agencies have bought tickets en masse in the hopes of selling them on at vast mark-ups. The tragedy is that they probably don't even need to sell all of them and won't and what we'll see when the games roll around is masses of empty seats. |

Go to your home country's olympic association website, they should have info on how to buy tickets. I have tickets for 5 different events but I am pretty sure that all the tickets are sold out for my home country. At least half of the tickets for events are reserved for Chinese. |

OP: I just bought some tickets for flights to Beijing around that time, and the best price I could get was 550,000 won. And I REALLY shopped around. In fact, the longer I took to decide, the more expensive the tickets got. I ended up paying 30,000 won more than I was originally quoted because I took too long to confirm.
If you were flying a coupe of weeks before or a couple of weeks after the Olympics, you would be able to pick up some relatively cheap flights. But I think all the cheap tickets are gone! |

If the boat from Incheon to Tianjin is still running you could take that and then take a taxi into beijing as it is only 45 minutes away. |

Was hoping to take advantage of the long weekend in the middle of the games, meaning flying would be the only sensible option. |

Sorry, one would presume if you paid for tickets to the Olympics you would go. So are you sitting on them or are you selling them? |

I believe the poster was speaking of purchasing airline tickets, not Olympics tickets. |
