An entire year...wow.
There has been a lot more coverage on school shootings in the news, I can tell you that much. I'm not sure if anything real has been done to find a solution for this problem. |

An easy solution it is, too. Can Korean citizens have guns in Korea?
How many gun murders in Korea each year?
How many homicides as compared to the US?
The fundamental problem in America is the 2nd Amendment. Before all the Americans on the board attack me and talk about their "right" as "American citizens" to "bear arms", let me tell you that the 2nd Amendment is out of context (it was written hundreds of years ago for entirely different reasons) and if you look at it statistically, "self-defence" gun related occurences are almost the rarest kind. The most prevalent kinds are violent crime, accidental shootings and suicides. |

Guns are agents, not problems. Gun control isn't going to fix mental illness, nor is it going to make us respect each other. |

I am an American, and I am most certainly against our gun laws, or lack thereof. It is easy to see that countries that don't allow having guns willy-nilly have lower violent murder rates .... duh.
However, after talking with many "peers" in the States, and reading message boards the net over, it seems many justify carrying a boatload of weapons as a kind of personal-sized "mutually assured destruction". In other words, gun-toters want to defend themselves against other gun-toters.
And you know what? I do see their point. America is a big country with tons of open space. We have a border with a questionable country. Outlawing all firearms will only keep it out of the good, honest peoples' hands, not the criminals. America is not like Korea, who can cover one border with their closed off brethren and also manage their tiny part of the sea.
So while I would LOVE to see a gun-free environment in the States...I just don't see it happening....realistically. |

Canada had a gun massacre with the Montreal Polytechnique (sic) killing of 22 women. All it takes is a nut. Remember Scotland? Norway? Japan subway? Korea subway? If someone wants to take people out, they can find a way. Unless we ban guns, period. But that didn't seem to help in Japan or Korea... |

No, but it would reduce the number of shootings. |

Shootings, sure. But would we have a spike in another area, like, bombings? Or violent stabbings? Or mass poisonings?
If the point is to reduce gun violence, sure, get rid of guns. But if the point is to reduce violence, we should definitely find a better strategy. |

How kind of you. A French teacher from Nova Scotia who was known around my area, and also known by my parents, was killed at Virginia Tech. |
