The nation's tourism agency pledged to promote the country's tourism brand ``Korea, Sparkling'' more actively this year.
The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) held a ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the launch of the tourism slogan in front of its headquarters building in Seoul, Tuesday.
The brand, developed to highlight Korea's tourism image, has been increasingly recognized by foreign tourists, according to the KTO.
``With the unified image and marketing, inbound travel is growing. The brand has been increasingly recognized in such a short time as about 20 percent of people in 16 major overseas tourism markets for Korea are aware of the slogan,'' a KTO official said.
At the ceremony, a monument featuring ``Korea, Sparkling'' was revealed. Three B-boy teams and Jazz pianist Gene Bora were also appointed as honorary ambassadors to promote Korean tourism.
Thirty journalists from 17 countries were invited to the ceremony. They will cover Korea's tourism destinations for a week.
With the tourism brand, KTO is seeking more active marketing.
Ahead of the ceremony, KTO signed a partnership with Asiana Airlines for joint marketing. The symbol of ``Korea, Sparkling'' will be painted on the carrier's 50 flights that will fly to 65 cities in 21 countries. The two sides will also develop tour programs together and hold joint promotions.
``I believe the cooperation with Asiana will upgrade Korea's tourism, achieving the aim to attract 7 million visitors and make $6.2 billion in tourism income this year,'' KTO President Oh Jee-chul said.
Asiana Vice Chairman Park Chan-bup said, ``The partnership will bring a synergy by taking advantage of the two sides' promotional methods.'' |

Ahh, your avatar...
"Korea, Sparkling" is the new campaign, then? I did notice the big influx of commercials, but I thought it was just because of the coming summer season. |

Will they allow foreigners and tourists to make reservations on trains and buses or to join Korean travel sites?
Didn't think so. |
