I'm trying to come up with a better lesson than the dreary textbook suggestions. Anyone done this lesson yet and have some good tips?

We played pictionary while reviewing adjectives and word order.

Using selected vocab from chapters one to five, I wrote the words on the board in three columns - first column for artlcles (a, an), second column for adjectives and third column for nouns. We reviewed what the words are (adjectives describe nouns and nouns are person, place or thing.) and then we reviewed the words that they might have forgotten the meaning to (ie. rock, goat).

I then had one boy and one girl sit at the front and draw a phrase that they had picked that I had already prepared (ie. an angry goat; a tall bookcase; a fast ball). The game is boys against the girls. The trick is that I left the words on the board so that if the picture was not clear I would point to the words and they would eventually figure it out (No...not an ugly prince, yes.. An angry prince.) If they just say "PRINCE!" I say, 'What kind of prince?'. For some slower classes I put the number 1,2,3 over each column so that they know they have to say it in that order (1 - article, 2-adjective, 3-noun) They are having lots of fun with this so far.

icnelly, those songs are awesome. I'm always looking for something for grade 3 because they love to sing and now I don't have to type out and photocopy the words to the song.
