Well, I'll take a stab at the easiest part of your question. I have an MEd with a concentration in English (not ESL) and I found the experience to me most useful because I had no experience whatsoever inside the classroom, and my program gave me the support that I needed to build up my confidence. As for the methods courses, they were pretty useless, as the professor told us at the end of the program, because they are all theory and the real classroom will always find a way to be a bit more surreal than anything they can include in a textbook.
As for how my degree is viewed here, well, all I can say is that I was told by other teachers to mention my degree as often as possible to the director, who has a two year accounting degree. Evidently he is intimidated by the degree, and the few difficulties we have had have been solved by the simple statement "When I was in graduate school..." |

No MA yet - maybe one day.
I have a Trinty TESOL dip - recently officially recognised as being same level as a UK MA - though a shorter program and no research - so by no means a substitute for this. Though MUCH more practical than teh MTEFL some people I met in the UK were doing . I recommend the course and teh people who taught it - pm me if you are interested.
IMO - you never get any direst financial return for TEFL qualifications, but they do open a few doors and make teh work more interesting and a whole lot easier.

Hehe, got my Masters about 2 weeks ago.
Hard work, it was a one year intensive course and at times I just wanted to quit and get myself a job in a call center or someshit
I think it is worth (it is for me) getting a Masters as I have had a lot of interest from different companies in the UK offering positions. I have also had a couple (2) offers to do a PHd (doctorship).
Yeah, do it Adventurman |

Yes - I have 2 e both of them are in scientific fields. No one seems to mind though. I guess that perhaps they see them as some indication of higher learning/ability even though totally unrelated to teaching english. |
