In the past, O- blood types were sought after for blood donation because they were considered universal donors due to the lack of anti-antigens. Nowadays, medical professionals know a little bit more about blood antigens than that.

I hear the Japanese, Koreans, and Taiwanese are big on the "blood type/personality" thing, similar to astrology. If you're at the intra-city bus terminal, you can find in the minibook machine those tiny books that tell you what you're good at if you're an O or a AB or some crap like that. |

But shouldn't EMS test you before giving blood anyways? |
Yes, I presume that would be standard. But I don't know how long a blood test takes and at what point they would feel it were necessary. |
couple minutes, if not quicker. |

| My son has O- bloodtype, I did not realize until today how rare O- blood is in Asia, only 8% which leaves me a little worried. Does anyone else have O- blood and what do you think about having some sort of contact list of O- people who are willing to help incase of emergencies.? |
When it comes to medical emergencies, the US military shares its supplies with local hospitals. On the EXCEEDINGLY unlikely event that some breakdown in communications were to occur, you could always contact (or have your family contact) your congressman in the states. He or she can, with a phonecall, force the military to act instantaneously.
I don't think it would be an issue. Just make sure your family knows who to call in case of such an event. |

| I think its a great idea to contact a blood bank here and I will do that and let you know what happens. Will try to find out about the Military blood banks aswell, I still think its reasurring for all us O-'s out there to have a personal list of others who are willing to donate in times of emergency though. Have a few people on the list already, if you are willing pm me. |

Yeah, because the US military here is just a bunch of cold-blooded, lazy, incomptent scum.
Why don't you try posting some actual advice instead of that trash? The hospitals here are already aware of how and when to contact the US military hospitals. The US military hospitals are also aware of how and when to contact the local hospitals. |

Great idea, Matt! I am O-negative, and I know it's rare here. I'd certainly be willing to help anyone out with blood.
I used to donate blood back home, but I remember hearing somewhere that it's not possible for foreigners to donate regularly here. Anyone know if this is true? |
I have given blood 4 times already. Asan accepted my blood without flinching. It seems I have double dose of blood plasma, and off very high quality in my blood, which is very good for healing wounds. Thus, they only took the yellow part of my blood. (white, red and yellow are the different functions of the blood, red for oxygen, white for disease and yellow for fixing tissue).
They also have an international assistance program, they speak english and help you around the hospital, and translate the conversation between you and the doctors. |

You think that's bad.. I'm AB- and after checking wiki. There's only .05 %... i'm screwed LOL |
