Hello. I received the following as homework from a teacher. This person in class says, "my" when pointing at another person and meaning "she" or "he", and says, "It's nice to meet you." every time I see him or her.
I've tried googling it, and parts of it, but I can't find where it was copied from. Does anybody have a subscription to a service that searches these things? And would you mind helping me out and sending me back the link where this was copied from? Or, failing that, sugegstions on how I can more efficiently search for this myself?

Strange request, I know, but I should send this back this morning.
Thank you.

Here is the text.

"Motivating students to learn English is crucial, since motivation affects effort, which produces results, eventually leading to increased ability. So, I seek to target the lesson toward what the students cares about most, introducing current topics into the classroom, and using myself as a model of enthusiasm and motivation for learning.
I use a mix of exercises, games, projects, and songs to teach children to communicate in English, through improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. course emphasizes grammar and vocabulary development through songs, dialogues and activities, and I use kinesthetic activities to provide practice for students. Songs help make learning fun and help to introduce new vocabulary and structures in a meaningful context.
Also I use Photos and illustrations which help visual learners to process information. Auditory learners have opportunities to both hear and repeat course material, while activities and games using touch and movement promote tactile and kinesthetic learning.
Research studies indicate that English language learners usually do not receive enough instruction. I am able to provide quality instruction and feedback on all levels of language progress, to allow students to overcome individual hurdles."

The problem is the teacher probably doesn't even know he cheated.
Print out the blog page, mark it zero and give it to him before the next class, ask him to do it again. Although it's up to you if you think he deserves another chance.

I do not teach at a teachers college. 21 teachers are taking a professional developement course through our local education office. They get points towards promotion or some such.

Thank you all for the help. I will use Naver first and them Daum in the future.

Yes, I agree, the teacher knows that he or she cheated. The teacher altered the text slightly to fit within the length parameter of the assignment.

We also discussed plagiarism, and what it was, at the beginning of that very class. I sent it back with a note that outed him/her in a rather raw and uncompromising manner; ie: This is NOT a misunderstanding, so don't even go there.

After each class, I spend about 9 hours editing and commenting on their writing and content. I really don't have time for stupidity.

You're right. It's neither fair to you nor honesty itself.

it's plagiarism, it's Korea, end of story.

Too bad poet13, I know you do a good job and do your best the help others regardless of the teaching situation. Make it known to the teacher that you are aware of their plagiarism, and give them an opportunity to resubmit their own work rather than the work of someone else. If they refuse you have other options that you can take, but do your best to give them an opportunity to correct their actions first before taking it to the next level.

I did send back a response. The email subject header was, "Regarding plagiarized writing assignment." The message body was more of the same.

I will not accept a re-submit. They have one writing assignment a week. Then can try again with the next one. They don't receive a grade for the course. Just prom. points I think.

Take it to another level? Nah. I won't even mention it in class. If the teacher has any shame, then my email was scathing, and we each know that the other knows. If the teacher doesn't have any shame, then it doesn't matter what I do.

I'm mostly annoyed that they could possibly think that I'm that stupid.

Soooo tob55, how was class today? Still employed?

Still employed, but that is in another thread. Go over and read it. Good on you for upholding your integrity. People have a hard time facing the music when they get caught. The best way to avoid the situation is for people to simply do their own work in the first place. I have been accused of plagiarism by some in the past, but I work way too hard and cover all my bases to carefully by having sources available for review. It is a tough world in terms of plagiarism today because anyone can access the Internet and do it. BUT I prefer to have a conscience and do my own work, which gives me much more satisfaction of my endeavors.

They think we couldn't possibly know it was copied directly from Naver. We don't know how to use "Search". Rolling Eyes

"They think we couldn't possibly know it was copied directly from Naver. We don't know how to use "Search". "

umm, I had to come on here and get someone to tell me to use Naver. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Actually, I had thought of using Naver, but I don't read Korean. I discovered today, that if I google Naver, it has a translation function.

Another reason that this bothers me, is that the teacher went to the trouble of parsing sentences, and changing bits to make it look like their own. Perhaps they thought they had changed it enough to not get picked up... Rolling Eyes

Yes, but the ends justify the means. You found it.
