I have some money coming my way from back home, but the only conveniant way to get it out here is a Western Union wire transfer. Is there any way I can get this after the usual banking hours, at a travel agent or some such?
I really, really don't want to have to go hat in hand to my department head, then vice principal, then principal, getting their signatures just so I can waste my lunch hour rushing to the bank and back. I'd almost rather do without the money, even though it amounts to about 200,000 won. Are there any banks that open late or on the weekend in Seoul?
I bank with Hana Bank and live in Dongdaemun, but I'm willing to travel to find a branch open on Saturday. |

KB* are the western union representative here in Korea. There is one other bank that also handles WU transactions.
I am NOT aware of any other places that handle WU.
Looks like you are going to be going during banking hours. |

So what you're saying is you could do this in a lunch hour? Are the people at your school really so evil that they won't let you do one banking transaction during the lunch hour? It seems like a completely reasonable request. Korean teachers do this ALL the time. It is not a "hat in hand" situation. Why not just ask the principal? Then when you have his permission, no one can say anything about it to ya. |

| Nonghyup Bank also started doing Western Union a few months ago. But as far as I can tell, it is impossible to have access to Western Union outside of banking hours. |

| I mean in order to leave the school for any reason, even officially to attend training, I have to get those three signatures, in rising order of seniority, on a form specifically for that purpose. I understand that's how things are done here but I find it extremely humiliating. If they trust me enough to teach children they should trust me enough to leave school grounds for a lunch time errand without having to be given permission. |

The school is fine in every other respect, I'm very well situated. All today I've been sitting in my room listening to music, drinking coffee and reading a novel because my classes are being used to prep for mid-terms.
They're just very hung up on procredure and bureaucracy, the situation I outlined above is the only way it really affects me. I'm much more pissed at banks in general for being so relentlessly customer unfriendly, if you have time to go to the bank between 9 and 4.30 you probably don't have any damn money in the first place. |
