|

I just bought an HDTV and now I can only pick up about 7 channels (all in Korean) through the tuner.
Is it worth it to subscribe to HD cable--I mean, are there any channels in English?
How much does it cost?
I presume it would involve the cable guy coming to the apartment, or would I be issued a box?
I'm in Pyeongtaek--does anyone know where I can get this service in my area?
Thanks in advance to all you Korea hands for the info! |

Easter Clark,
Care to describe the TV you got?
I am curious about the market for tv's in Korea.
Would you willing to share the price, size, brand, etc etc.?
Cheers |

We have Big Box cable/internet. We get a bunch of HD channels, close to 200 in total, plus broadband internet. With the upgraded package we got, it's 41 bucks a month... for both... total. Sometimes I love being in Korea.
*about 200 "regular channels" I don't mean to say we have 200 HD channels. I think it's somewhere between 10-20 HD channels... never really counted. |

Where did you go to set that up? Right now, I only get about 60 channels of Standard TV (only two or three have English programming) and I'm paying the same amount you are!
KoreanAmbition--
It's nothing special. A 24" LCD Full HD. The picture quality is excellent! I paid around 500k won for it. You can find them cheaper, but I couldn't find one that size that had a better picture. |

Thankfully I had a K-friend check it out for us. We went to a PCbang, checked out the website and then gave them a call. It was, and I mean this quite literally, installed less than two hours later. We made the calls on the day we moved into our new place and ordered everything that day (furniture, cable, internet, appliances) and it was ALL delivered within hours of us picking it out. Oh, and this was a Saturday...
Bitch about Korea all you want, but it beats the HELL out of "back home" in a lot of respects. I was totally expecting to go a week without internet (like I would back home). |

Thanks! Could you put the link up here to Big Box's website? |
