I may be visiting Daejeon soon and would like to find a place that has nice bars, a student or expat crowd and yeogwans within walking distance. I know, I know, yeogwans, but they are so cheap and you get those cool naked massage cards on the steps.

Subway station locations or university locations and directions are greatly appreciated. Cheers, BB

The area right outside of Chungnam University (expo side) used to be REALLY happenin.

In the late 90s it was THE place to be!...it never closed and cruised along all night! Saw many 서울 plates on parked cars, on weekends.

The name is escaping me right now....AH! "KoongDong!" That's it.

I hear it has mellowed recently, but can still be fun. Check it out.

Other than that, you could go downtown and see if the "watermelon sugar" still exists. (was an expat bar with a nice korean mix....MANY dears and beers ago)

Also, 대흥동 might be worth a look. CLubs/bars, etc....

yeah, i wouldnt really waste too much time with gundong these days, although that is around the area where all the love motels are....

to be honest i don't go out much but when i do it's either dunsan dong or daeheondong as afore mentioned. if you want to go to daeheondong either get in a taxi and say daeheondong milano bekhwajam......or grab the subway to junangno

if you want to go to dunsan dong get in taxi say dunsan dong time world (in konglish of course)....or you can take the subway and get off at city hall but you have to walk a bit.

A Bar called 'Santa Clause' at goondong is a good indoor cozy place to chill on a Friday night.

Always look forward to it..

Games, pool and phoose (however you spell it) ball.

That's two (seeming) Daejonites....one "against" goondong and the other offering up a bar in goondong.

I'm curious as to what has happened to my drunken, spew-littered dong of the past!?

What is today's 군동?

well basically it just seem it's becoming 'has been' i go there often enough because i live within walking distance...but many of the bars that used to be 'cool' have shut their doors, whilst other bars have packed up and moved to dunsan dong. you can still go out in gundong, but it seems things get pretty quiet after about 10pm....i think students start there then move on to other, livelier parts of town.

Santa Claus was a pretty happening kinda place, back in '98 or so. Glad to hear it still has something to offer. Mr. ? (Oh?) used to have a really nice collection of albums to play.

Yours is alive and well I am afraid.

The university is still there after all.

I do get tired of drunken street walking students and teachers at times.

I don't make a habit of the convenience store beer in this area as I have no wish to contribute, just a beer/ dinner at the bar, enjoy the music and head home.

Returning to Daegu last week opened my eyes to how different Daejeon could be but it has one downtown and the downside is it's often crowded.
