What is the lastest information regarding water on Mars? I am not sure having a biosphere on Mars is very useful unless it would be used later for general observation and launching missions from Mars.

The purpose of a biosphere on Mars is habitation. Mars would be a new planet for humans, not a way station. After a few hundred years, maybe a thousand, the humans would had lived and developed on Mars would begin to become a distinct race if regular infusion of Earthbound DNA wasn't injected into the genome.

If we can make it through the next hundred years the next thousand hold some very interesting things for humanity.
