Well, based on my reaction to a kid who said F you to another student yesterday, at least one fifth grade class knows not to say it...
I recently wrote a blog post about scolding some middle school boys who were being rude. I said, in part, "말하지마! 무례해!" Someone commented that I should say "야 닥쳐 새끼야!" because my method was more awkward.
THAT phrase would get any of my studiomates extra pushups in taekwondo, and I would give my students extra pushups for that phrase. I'd rather sound slightly awkward in a foreign language than swear in a foreign language. |

If it's a personalized palte, there are other options if you don't get your first choice: ship sekki, shibal nom, jot ka, plenty of others. It's not like the DMV will know what they mean. |

I was shocked by this as well...

...if you say 'f___ you' to someone in MY country, you'd better be ready to run or fight (as unfortunate as this is, it's true)... saying 'sorry' won't cut it... the excuse 'they don't understand what it means' is NO excuse - if you don't know what it means, then you DEFINITELY shouldn't be saying it!
i would feel responsible if a student of mine got the crap kicked out of him (or her) for saying 'f___ you' to an english speaker... |
One of the students flipped me off with both fingers and then tried to run from me. He knew what he had done was wrong and that it meant something bad. Since it was his first time I was lenient... I grabbed him by both middle fingers bent backwards and lead him to the directors office, not to have him yelled at, but to explain that doing that means. I also told him that if he did that again, I would do what my father did when my little brother did it to him, catch his finger and twist it.
He didn't do it again... but he tried to dongchim with much of the same reaction... |

You are quite right. I am going to make sure to try several combinations and see what I can get if 18181818 doesn't work. |

They're oblivious to swear words but not voice tone. I absolutely tore to bits some ajosshi jumping the qeue at mcdonalds today.
The whole staff dropped what they were doing in shock and the old dude gave me a silly deer in headlights look. Priceless!!!! |

| I was waiting at the bus stop today and there was a young Korean man wearing a shirt with a 9mm handgun on it that said "9 reasons to shut your f____n mouth." Needless to day, I was shocked. Not going to get away with that back home. |

So today is sports day and who should I find still sporting her 'Fucking Your Head' customised track jacket. I confiscated it and took it to the staff room to do some redecorating and when I came back to deliver the revised version a bit of a crowd gathered around to see what I had done, including her homeroom teacher who can speak a fair bit of English. Well, she along with all the students thought it was really funny.
'Maybe she don't know what that word mean'?
'She knows exactly what it means'.
'Ha ha ha, you are a real teacher'! |
