|
|
This will be my first summer in Korea. I'm coming from a place that isn't hot nor cold and I barely made the cold. I know I'm being melodramatic, but I'll die from the heat. What's the best place to buy one of those suckers and how much will a portable one cost (as in unit and monthly cost for electricity).
I live in a small apartment complex, is it possible to install the air conditioning unit by myself or do I need to call the plummer, manager, etc?
Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks! |

| Ask a Korean colleague to help you buy an air con. Also, I've seen small air cons at stores like E-mart. I'm sorry but I don't know anything about setting one up. |

| The shop will deliver and set-up the aircon for you. There is usually no charge for this. The actual unit cost deends on the size of the aircon. I just bought 2 new units for my apartment. 1 15 pyung unit and 1 8 pyung unit. Both are top end models. I paid 1.7 million won. You can, of course, pay considerably less. You should also ask your school about them providing you with an air-con. They may not but it never hurts to ask. |

| If your school won't give you an air-con give notice. |

An air con unit must have an outside part, it cant all be in your apartment, so this involves some installation.

| We bought a new aircon last year, it cost around 300,000 including installation. The shop will deliver it and install it. If you're going to buy one, do it soon. The install guys get really busy as summer approaches, and we had to wait 3 weeks for them to install it. |

I'm just going to wait and see. At this point, I'm 99% sure I won't need one.

It's not the heat that's a killer in Korea, it's the humidity. |

| Hey, I found one of those cold air blowing machines on my veranda. How does it work? I think I need to put a block of ice in the back of it or something. Where does the water go, and do I have to put it next to a window to blow out the hot air ????? |

Let us know how it works. My friend bought one last summer and it did very little to cool her off, even with the block of ice inside. Just curious if she got a dud by buying used.
To me, air-conditioning is a must in Korea. The humidity is absolutely disgusting. |

| I pass by one of those stores that sell used A/C units every day. They have them in all sizes and models. |
