Whichever city you're from, contact the criminal records department of the Police and ask them for the 'subject access check' form.

They can send it to you by email. Fill it in, send it back to the Police with a cheque for 10 pounds (mine accept cash, it does vary).

You'll get written notification it will take 40 days to process the form. When you finally receive it, get it apostilled at the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) in London.

You can do this in person in London on the same day. You can do it by post and it will take a few weeks to process. Or you can pay a bit of money and get it apostilled through an online company in England, which can get the apostille done and then return it to you.

Go to the website of your particular county or city police force and search there. That should give you the opportunity to download or print off the application.

Fill it in & send that back to mum and wait for upto 40 days after they receive the application. Factor in time for posting from Korea to home, home to Korea, maybe 40 days + 2 weeks.

That's not a full check, it's only local, there may be an additional few boxes you need to tick and fill in if you want a national check, but the local one is good enough and accepted.

That's what I did in Aug of last year.

Or go here and do it online

There really should be a sticky for this as it's always being asked about.

Thanks everyone.

Also does anyone know if an employer can stop you from leaving the country.

Basically, I'm having big problems with my employer due to late payments, pension and tax issues. If I decide to leave could he prevent me, does he have any legal ability to do this?

Could he stop me from leaving...by contacting immigration?

The Disclosure Scotland check can only be done online if you are currently living in the U.K. (and at the same address for more than a year).

There is a Facebook group that deals only with UK applications. Will have a look for the link. Lots of good info there.

Hi ibu. Did you use the Basic Disclosure after the new visa regulations started in March this year? I'm trying to find out if I can use this kind of check.
Cheers

I used the basic when I arrived last year, but I'd also be interested in knowing if the basic is still being accepted or if they now only accept the full-disclosure.

How do I choose which police force to ask?
The place of my birth.
The place I have spent most time in.
The last place I lived in.
Or doesn't it matter?

^It doesn't matter. Just go to your nearest Police Station and ask for a subject access form.

If they're still being accepted, I'd say just get the basic disclosure. I applied for both, but found the basic to be faster.

Bear in mind that the letters can get lost as well.

My criminal check which I ordered for a back up from the local police office never arrived.

The receipt did but the check didn't

I already had one from the previous year and a Disclosure Scotland for this year - neither which i needed.

If you can get it sent to a UK address then have somebody send it here with your address in English and Korean.
