-When they do the whole salute the flag, play the songs, do you place your hand over your heart? As I understand, it is impossible for an American to 'pledge alliegence' to another country. I know it is a technical thing, and I do stand at attention and look at the pepsi sign, but I don't feel I should place my hand there. Has anyone ever given you a hard time over this? |

No, why should I? Nobody has ever said anything to me about it either. |

I would stand at attention out of respect for South Korea. I would look at the Flag.
But, it is not my country. I would not put my hand over my heart, nor salute. |

I guess I do do the hand over heart thing, but I'm not pledging my allegiance...
I'm just trying to show respect. |

It would be very inappropiate/idiotic for a foreigner to place hand on heart for the Korean national anthem.
I don't even do it for my own country's anthem. Lucky to get me even to stand. The whole thing is designed to mind-control the plebs. Whatever country you're from. |

We (at the uni where I taught) were advised merely to stand and look respectful. We not required to put our hand over our heart. Blimey! I wouldn't even do that for my own bloomin' anthem. |

eamo,
I don't know what the Korean law on the subject is for Korean citizens; however, I do know that in the United States, everyone has the right to not participate in any form whatsoever in saluting the flag, saying the pledge of allegiance, or even singing the national anthem.
Contrary to the obvious opinion of Tokyo's current governor, everyone in Japan has the same right in regard to their so-called patriotic displays. |

Interesting. I think one of the Koreans suggested it when I first got here. Perhaps they were a little overzealous. |

I agree with BB and Eamo, good Brits there. Why would I want to put my hand on my heart for possibly the worst national anthem there is. If it was the Frog Song by Paul McCartney then maybe.

With Korea, don't they play the allegiance and then the national anthem at school? The allegiance being the one that they put their hands on their hearts, but not for the anthem.
Look respectful and stand up straight. If anyone asks, reply tearfully..... |

I do. Korea's never gone out of it's way to hurt other nations. It's not like in the US where I'd use the national anthem as an excuse to go to the toilets or go out and have a smoke. |

I don't stand for national anthems. I've also never seen anyone put their hands over their hearts for their own, never mind another country's. I thought hands behind your back is the norm. |

sorry, if I saw a foreigner with his hand over his heart for the Irish anthem, I'd think hes an idiot. I'm pretty sure thats what it buys you with most koreans. |
