I have 27,400 Won left. Payday is the May 10th (or hopefully the 9th because the 10th is a Saturday).
What should I buy? |

Are we back to that?
I have W20,000, plus whatever's in my change jar.
That's AFTER today's modest grocery shopping, so I'll wait until next week to play. |

Didn't you do a thread like this not long ago? It's one thing to see the same thread again and again from different people, but the same person now? |

Not this again...
Listen: Don't fret. Don't budget. Don't ration that 20,000 won out over the next... 3 weeks.
Nope. Instead, pawn something. Grab your TV, your laptop, your Rolex, your weight set, something, anything, and head out to your nearest 전당포. Hire a deluxe taxi to take you there, go in style! And since the fare may well be more than you can afford at that moment, have the driver park outside for a few minutes while you hustle your TV/laptop/etc. up 4 flights to da Man wit da Plan and 55,000 won for your stuff. Like I used to do.
Then you can start a new thread: "I'm down to 55,000 won" |

I wonder if I could sell the air con and fridge. I'm in a small building officetel. And I'm on the first floor. No stairs. Even outside.
They're brand new and the fridge basically hasn't been used yet. I've been eating out every night and only moved in in March.
Good way to go to jail though if I were caught. Hmm. I could always replace them later.
This is tongue in cheek, of course. But I thought about it. |

I've done that before. He sees me coming from a mile away. Plus he'll probably sick the cops on me if he sees me again.
I avoid that stop like the plague. |

To the OP - I was in your situation many times in Korea. As an yingwenlaoshi, you really should be in China, where I am.
I make 9000RMB a month at an easy job teaching adults, 25 hours a week. Now, you may think that this money is peanuts but lamb kebabs, bowls of noodles, dumplings (real noodles and dumplings, not that poo they sell in Korea) all cost about 5RMB, one's cash tends to go a lot further.
Six-packs of beer from the store are 12RMB, and of course you then have the Chinese that will take you out and pay for everything because it gives them face to be seen with a foreigner, like the hot 21 year-old that took me out for lamb and beef hot pot earlier tonight.
If I want to splurge, I can go to the German-owned bakery 5 minutes away and buy real sandwiches with a drink for 20RMB, or to the Cantonese joint near my place, or to the Aussie bar around the corner for decent pies, or to the Italian-owned restaurant a ten-minute walk away, all of which serve more authentic 'ethnic' cuisine than that found in Korea for a fraction of the price.
Will I leave China with a lot of money? Highly unlikely. I didn't leave Korea with a lot of money, but at least in China I can live like a king, juggle a ton of girlfriends, and not put up with blatant racism and xenophobia, and learn a language that is not only fun but actually useful in the scheme of things.
My final advice? Take your last paycheck like I did and head to China. I recommend cities in Jiangsu or Zhejiang province. Tons of jobs, safe, and a decent standard of living. Good luck with your plight nonetheless. |

So are you broke from living lavishly or from sending excessive amounts back home? |

I fancy China in a year or twos time. I have seen the accomodation some of the teachers live in ! My God! It looks fantastic - I wouldn't mind living on the southern coast as well where it is warm all the year round! The food, the women! As for money - the money is crap everywhere more or less. None of us are getting overpaid, but if you can have a decent lifestyle on the wages you are getting paid - thats most of the battle isn't it?
