I swear sometimes I can feel my IQ dropping while reading this forum.
Sorry, bad Monday. |

There were also a lot of 'B' students in university, remember? |

The definite/definate error isn't as annoying as the lose/loose mistake. |

I can forgive typos and overlook the occasional mis-spelling, but not of such common words, not from supposed English teachers. All the their, they're, there, to, too, your, you're mistakes are embarrassments too.
I just cringe and bite my tongue when I read them, because no one likes the grammar police guy, but I die a little inside, so thanks for the thread dedicated to this gripe. |

Your post put me in a bad-grammar-remembrance induced frenzy. |

I remember a huge thread about 'definite' about two years ago. It went on for page on page and then finally got yanked by the mods when the spelling on the 'rules' board got dragged over the coals. Happy times..... |

The one that bothers me is resign vs. re-sign. A hyphen makes a helluva difference in meaning, people.

Plenty of "D" students, too. And after teaching here, I know that even a "D" is not indicative of a pass. It could be he only got a 40% and just pestered his prof to the point that he got a "D" just so he would go the hell away. |

is definate and definite spelt one way in English and American English?? im not sure as i always spell it the correct way according to this thread, but i get pissed off when i get told mum should be spelt mom and favourite, favorite because some American dude thinks it can only be spelt the one way and his way has to be right. |
