|
|
I had a buddy from Vancouver that was teaching here for a couple of years after university. When he went home, he used everything he made in Korea to pay for another degree, this time in Engineering. (Before it was Philosophy)
He was recently invited back to Korea by a large Korean company to do engineering work here. Double the salary he made as a teacher, he is put up in a very luxorious apartment, very stable work hours, and his overall health and well-being are unmatched. He was iffy on Korea before cause he was teaching a lot of difficult kids in a difficult area of Seoul, but now he is enjoying Korea on an entirely different level.
Imagine the possibilities of being able to do something useful.
Also, on my last trip back home, I met an old Canadian dude at the airport that it turned out was the captain of my Korean Air flight. Needless to say, he works less hours than any Uni teacher with 4x the pay.
Again, imagine the possibilites of being able to do something useful.
In my case, I had a Bsc in computer engineering. I really could be doing a lot better for myself. I am passionate about computers but haven't pushed myself to buckle down in the field.
My exuse, lack of motivation and a general laziness. I didn't even work all through university. Just lived off student loans.
End of rant. |

i'm sure average engineering grad makes more than average psychology grad, but its all about individual motivation and enthusiasm in the field
a motivated and entusiastic psychologist would make more than a med/dent grad |

Motivation is key.
I have a degree in Civil Engineering, but quit my job at home as it was driving me crazy. I couldn't stand the work or the people.
I thought about looking into a job in the engineering field here, but my lack of motivation and the work hours I have heard about here scare me off completely. I talked to an older dude at the gym who just retired. He said he worked 16 hour days for as long as he could remember!!! |

I have zero interest in math, or engineering.
I teach. |

I'm looking forward to going back to school and having enough money that I don't have to work at the same time. Thanks Korea! |
