A lot of poeple here like to laugh at korean products and style.
here is clip of the BBC doing the same thing..driving korean cars, and laughing at them.
(this programe is very popular all around the world,it is even shown in america)

Many fashionable young modern koreans ,like dannykim80 or JAD turn their back on koreas products and only covet and aquire western products and designer goods.
Shockingly, despite their Korean pride and nationalism, when it comes to spending their parents money, these highly educated and elite stylish young men choose western goods over korean products, every time (and then they like to document or boast publicly about ,as we have seen here, this week)
What is this doing to koreas pridefulness and shameful feeling?

Dude, you're quickly becoming as annoying as Daniel.
Give it up. Change your M.O, or go away. You're not entertaining. Not at all. |

For a while Korea produced the best mp3 players in the world. The iRiver harddrive players had better specs than iPod for some years. First with color screen, first with video playback. There were also a pile of extras, like drag and drop, recording, player to player transfer of songs, .......

so,what went wrong? |
Outsold by Apple. Apple started signing deals with Toshiba to buy all the hard drives that came off their production lines when a new series was bought out. This meant that Apple was always able to offer higher capacity. Apples greater sales allowed them to do this, and gave them more advertising clout.
The free market at work I guess.
Also Apple had a software package that would let any fool plug their iPod into their computer, put a CD in, wait a while and then walk away playing it. I guess their greater sales came from the number of fools out there

mm,sounds like apple got it right.
i have an i pod,it sure is easy to use and a beautiful product.
it pretty much defines our era, which is quite an achievement for a tiny mp3 player.
of course the dannykims /JADS probably have ipods too.
as ipods are worn,on the street, status driven young taste shaping koreans will always buy western ..thats why the i.river failed IMHO. |

I have one as well. After a while iRiver gave up on trying to compete in the HD mp3 player market. They moved onto the flash player market and dictionary market.
It is a shame. I think the required using of iTunes sucks. I preferred my iRiver, and if they made a HD player with enough capacity for my wants I would buy one.
Many students use iRiver products. They are well designed, have great sound quality and software.

I have a hard drive ipod and it's a piece of sh*t. I think harddrive mp3s will be phased out in favor of flash mp3s since - as my ipod has shown - harddrives break easily.
Now if only there was some kind of small asian nation that was really good at making flash memory...
BTW, I'd hate for western culture to be reduced to churning out status symbols for trendy rich asians. It's like how Italians make cars and clothes for the world elite, but has a slumping economy overall. |

The video would be nice is Kia was marketing the rio to compete with the prosche, but as its a marketed as a vehicle I dont see why anyone would expect super amazing driving experiences. Hyundai is consistenly ranked at a very relaible car company, and its vehilces as an excellent value for their price. If you want a cheap car, no one makes them better. There are lots of people out there that just need to get from point A to point B, and Hyundai knows thats their group. Just look at the Sant Fe, Hyundai has supply problems because demand for the vehicle is so high.
LG is hands down on the cutting edge of design in appliances and electronics and makes some of the best phones available in America. Their other serious comeptition is Samsung, who is with a few exceptions (like cameras but they are working on that) one of the best and in many areas THE best electonics company on the planet. Sony has slipped way down the tubes in recent years, I cant think of a more over valued POS in the market than Sony products. They are often some of the most expensive and most problem ridden. They used to be great, but well....I guess Korea is moving along faster than them. Just look at Toshiba, who is getting electronics parts FROM Samsung under a new liscensing agreement. I mean, the Japanese want electronics from Korea? Why not? They are one of the world leaders, especially in semi-conductors. Id say about iRiver but that base has been covered. For the record just based on mine and my friends experiences the iRiver's we had lasted FAR longer and sustained WAY more damage than our iPods.
Korean crap? Some of the best technology in the world comes from Korea. Sure they make some duds but who doesnt, I mean look at the crap coming out of the US. |

Look at what powers some of the best electronics out in the market. I'm positive Samsung chips are the ones powering an iPhone/iPod touch.
Hyundai cars have come a LONG way since the 1980's. 10 year, 100,000mile warranties are an absolute Godsend. Also, the quality and design of their cars has gone up. The new Sonata's give Honda Accord and Toyota Camry a run for their money.
Don't forget that Cowon is a Korean company. Anyone know a better PMP maker than Cowon?
Samsung LCD panels are considered the best in the world. MANY top manufacturers use Samsung LCD panels, Dell is the biggest one off the top of my head. |

I agree on the Cowon products. They are simply outstanding.
I also wish Hyundai Canada had the same warranty as they do in the US...10yr/100,000miles = OMFG crazy for a warranty. They sold a hell of a lot of cars...Kias included. |

Partially correct!

Actually, Samsung buys its chips from a lot of sources for its various products. Some American, some Taiwanese, some Chinese, etc. A close friend of mine works for a foreign semiconductor company that supplies chips to Samsung. I'm not sure if Samsung's semiconductor R&D is at world-class status yet in all areas. I believe they rely on a large number of outsourced materials to make a lot of their final products. They also do the same for others, too. |

Samsung Electronics is a top electronics company in the world right now. I think jet trash is still living in the 80's.
Market ascendance
Samsung is a top rated electronic & IT brand in various reports. In 2006, Business Week rated Samsung as 20th on the Top 100 global brands and the Number 1 in the electronics industry.[6] Business Week also ranked Samsung as #12 in a ranking of the "Top 100 Most Innovative Companies" in a special report published April 24, 2006. [7] In January 2007, BrandFinance ranked the company as the Number 1 global brand in electronics.[8]
The semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics is the world's largest memory chip and second largest semiconductor manufacturer worldwide.[9] In particular this has been the case for DRAM and SRAM for over a decade. Samsung, the world's largest LCD manufacturer, plans to begin running its eighth-generation manufacturing line to make 57-inch panels during the second half of the year.[10]
In 2007, Samsung became the world's second largest mobile phone manufacturer, surpassing Motorola[11].
