Anyone know the difference? All I know is that E1 is only for tertiary teaching positions, although I am currently on an E2 working in a University.
I've tried to search on this site, but E1 doesn't even register on the search engine.
Anybody have an E1? How does it differ in terms of application process, regulations etc.?
Cheers... |

E1s tastes better, especially with red wine. Also, apparently Unis were trying to side-step the E2 B.S. and applying for E1s for their teachers, but Immi or those in-charge decided that only MA/MS/MEd (in English or TESOL, mind you) holders were worthy. E2s are greasier, but good after a night out drinking to help cure the hangover. |

I've got an E1. No MA. It seems to be a lottery sort of thing. It depends on how the consulate is feeling that day.
Its handy. |

E2 is teacher of a foreign language.
E1 is visiting professor.

E1's are issued to "Content Teachers." E2's go to "Conversational Teachers." In reality, because Immigration issue these visas at random to university instructors, these people often work together at the same university doing the same tasks in the same departments and hate each other. People with BA's get E1's sometimes and people with MA's and even with PhD's get E2's sometimes. E1's, believe it or not, are by law not allowed to teach conversation but often do only that all day long as E2's often become "Content Teachers" as departments evolve. Sparkling!

Awesome indeed, as is the flip side: E-2s are prohibited by law from teaching anything BUT conversation.
When teaching writing and grammar are outlawed, only outlaws will teach writing and grammar. Or something. |
