Has anyone else heard stories about Korean men
buying filipina wives and bringing them her and
abusing them. I have heard horror stories of these
filipina women being abused, hit, locked in the house
all day and night, raped, forced to only clean
and cook, and have their passports kept by their
husband. |

I think that kind of story would be more common with Vietnamese brides. Filipinas usually have enough English and can make enough connections that they're not helpless. And it's not like that sort of thing never happens to SE Asian brides in other countries or married to other nationalities. I knew a Canadian teacher who was married to a 20-year-old Filipina half his age and often wondered what their relationship was really like. I only met her once. She seemed really nice and friendly but I wonder what the hell she did all week long if the only person with whom she could communicate on a daily basis was her (unsavoury) husband. |

Actually, more Western dudes (50 years +) tend to go the Philippines to get a 20-year-old wife. Take a trip there and you'll see what I mean. Most treat them fine, but of course there will be some idiots among them. |

I think the number of filipinas marrying Koreans has taken a nosedive in the past few years. My ex-fiance is an international TV reporter for the #1 TV station in the phils, and a few years ago, she told me that there have been multiple stories about abuse of filipinas who marry Korean men. It sounds as if filipina women are now well aware of the dangers of marrying a Korean male (and the lies often associated with placement). |
