uhhhh yeah. If your friend's allergy is life-threatening I would not have him come. there's no way you'll be able to guarantee he won't come into contact with peanuts here. Hell, it's hard enough getting them to understand that ham is meat. |

Thanks for the reply,
impossible to gurantee it in any country.
i mean he eats nuts then needs to go to the hospital, has an epipen as well.
so i mean death is a slim possibility.
but would take something out of korea if he can't eat out, and after living with a couple of them i have a hard time understanding Vegetarians
Cheers though |

I have a friend who has lived here for over 12 years with a fairly acute peanut allergy. He has had a few trips to the emergency room. He is very careful of what he eats, but he has told me he had the same number of instances living in canada.
He will just have to be vigilant about it if he comes. |

I don't really know what the deal is with the sudden increase in peanut allergies. When I was a kid no one had those allergies.
Back in Canada they have peanut warnings all over the place. Here...never seen any such warning. Chances are your friend would be SOL with foods and medical treatment.
I guess I am grateful my mom fed me peanut butter when I was a baby. Super immune system FTW. |

thanks number 6
Could your friend eat out at all? if so how?
asked some of my friends here and they said; seafood allergy is more common and people can cope with that by having a little note from their mommy in Hangul saying 'if i eat seafood i will die' or something simmilar works ok.
more concerned about peanut oil, it's used a lot in Chinese take outs in the UK, and is easy for a waiter to overlook.
ohh and Nicholas i think Daves is Nuts no matter what your doing on it |

He eats out all the time. The use of peanuts and peanut oils is not very common in Korea.
He has a hell of a time in Thailand though.
My friend likes meat, and generally avoids any that are prepared with a sauce.
I think the best way in general to avoid it is to stick to basic foods that are prepared simply without and of the spices or sauces.
Samgyupsal, kalbi sal, sushi are the choices when I go out to dinner with my friend. |

I have a life threatening peanut allergy as well and have been having a wonderful time discovering new foods that I can't eat. (j/k, so far I've been fine...)
The only thing I'd advise against (from experience) is pizza from Pizza Bingo (they have a pecan pizza and I had a reaction from cross contamination) |

I am allergic to all nuts but not particularly seriously. If i eat something with nuts I can immediately recognise the taste and stop and my allergic reaction is relatively mild.
I have been korea 4 months now and had a couple of run ins with nuts, nothing serious but still annoying. If I had a really serious allergy I would be dead by now but seen as your friend is only visiting I think its ok, stick to simple foods such as kimchi for the duration of their stay. |
