I was browsing in Kyobo, waiting for a mate, and I just happened to pick up the latest edition of LP. Flip to the Sincheon section and I see the list my favourite bar in the drinking section

FLIPPING HECK

<cue old-timer rant>
I bet it's overrun with mighty whiteys now...
at least I know how to read the name of the bar...
it ain't the wood bar
it ain't the underground bar
it ain't the basement bar
it ain't "the bar"

I first went there in 2002 and it was GOOD. Last time I went there was 2004 and it was still GOOD. I'm too scared to go back in case it is full of freakin' mighty whiteys and they're gonna tell me how old I am and how my korean sucks and how my salary sucks and how I should get a job in a university, and how my apartment sucks, and how their GF is better than my GF
<end old-timer rant>

If I go there will anyone dance with me when it goes off?

Yeah, your bar will be swamped with all those millions of tourists that swamp Korea. Look out for all the backpackers.

Maybe someone will ride 20 stops on the subway to have a beer before taking the subway home.

Poor you.

^ That has been caught.

I know from living in Thailand that they don't go around updating properly. That new bars and restaurants are left out and old ones that are closed down are left in.

It's true, the news story was about one Lonely Planet writer. However, leaving new bars out and not updating old listings has more to do with not enough Lonely Planet writers than it has to do with lying.

This reminds me of one dilemma: "what if aliens came down to earth?" The best answer is ''what if they didn't." This is vis a vis the proposition that most, or all, of Lonely Planet writers are liars. I believe it's more likely he was one of the few.

He came forward himself. He was not "caught."

whats your point? If it was ment to be a foreigner bar before then whats the problem? A bar every here and there for foreigners is a godsend for those who dont speak korean and need a release at the weekends.

I've been to that bar about 6 times in the last four years, ram packed every time.

Personally I found the atmosphere there to be like a meat market on steroids.

Not my cup of tea.

The OP is very late if he is worried about Nori being overrun by meat head foreigners. Its actually somewhat of a gay mans pick up joint these days.

lonely planet guidebooks are reliably bad, pretentious w/o living up to the hype

full of errors, and generally worthless

the ecuador one i used was crap

i recommend ripping the maps out without actually paying for the books
this will lighten your backpack

unless you're traveling to a country where you might need extra toilet paper where then the other pages will come in handy
