I've thought for a long time that a country needs a revolution every 200 years or so.
Thomas Jefferson thought differently, that I'm off by an order of magnitude, yes, every 20 years.
By now, we are even past my own yardstick.
Revolution Now! |

If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty...And what country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure. |

If the mods can say that I called you a moron in my previous post (which I clearly did not) then I can assume that they will see the same thing in this series of quotes.
Again, I want to know what was wrong with what I wrote. How does pointing out that a person is trying to start a tired old flame war all over again equal an insult or a violation of forum rules? |

Huh? If there had been a flame war with regard to Mciahel Moore, I missed it.
In any event, can't people who disagree about Moore have a civil debate/discussion about their differences? If you feel a need to flame, can you not scroll past the thread and go on to the next? Why do people waste their time flaming?
What I object to is bringing up a topic, then when someone getting flamed merely for asking for more information. |

Yes. After Fahrenheit 9-11 there were about three Moore threads going at once. I don't want to relive that. |

You didn't get flamed, although you probably should have for calling Kuros a "douche bag." You got linked to a website that would eliminate the need for a tired, old argument.
If you want to read up on the flame wars regarding Michael Moore, the search button is at the top of the page. |

Plig, there is a problem with Bacasper having called Kuros a douchebag, and you calling him dense, it basically makes the place smell like certain parts of the city when the sewage seeps out. It was the calling a person dense and calling a person a douchebag that kind of step out of bounds of the ball playing venue. Gopher is doing a good job and so are others. Why do you all need to trash each other when discussing issues. It won't make you bigger or better women or men, and it doesn't make your points better.
Thanks... |

Exactly. One could say this about nearly anything the far left writes about America. If affairs were truly as beyond redemption and simply as evil as they have claimed, and if they truly acted in good faith in conscience, then they would need to move to overthrow the govt. |
However, when reading the book, it does all seem quite plausible.
All the footnotes and stuff makes it look like it's the real deal.
I cannot say for sure if it's bogus or not.
I just figure that Americans would
A: verify all the facts
B: if found to be true, start an armed revolt. |

Well, you should have said that instead of starting this flame war by saying I wasn't worth the time it would take yo to respond.
How is it that you get a pass from the mods for this? Enrico? |

| In Farenheit Moore said that Saudi Arabia "owned 11% of the US economy." This is a shocking number if true. What he should have said is that Saudi Arabia is responsible for 11% of all foreign direct investment. Very different animal and very misleading on Moores part. |

I personally liked Fahrenheit 9/11. He brought up some good points, I thought, but it sounded too much of everything was a conspiracy. There is some truth to the fact that there was a connection to the Bush family and people dealing with weapons, and the Bush Adminstration was close to the Saudi royal family. Bush senior was trying to protect what he perceived to be American interests as did his son. Michael Moore did make it seem in the movie that Saudi Arabia was investing 800 billion dollars a year in the U.S. which is preposterous as Saudi Arabia's GNP didn't exceed 290 billion in 2005, and Fahrenheit 9/11 came out before then. I mean he could have done his homework. That was sloppy of a person supposedly doing a documentary, so, though I am somewhat liberal in certain areas, I would not want to rely on Michael Moore as some liberal guru. He is not if he is sloppy with his stories like that.
It doesn't mean I dismiss out of hand. He does contribute to the debate, but one should becareful in believing everything he says. |

I disagree. Either there's a problem with the word "douchebag", or there isn't.
Kuros introduced the word "douchebag". I have a problem with bacasper's use being called foul while Kuros's is OK.

I'll await a referee ruling before I proceed on this thread, which is rich in content. |

Hmm.
First, your facts are flawed. Kuros did not in fact introduce the word "douchebag" on this thread. Second, Kuros called Michael Moore and not another poster "a major douche." Bacasper called Kuros "a douchebag" and later Pligganease called Bacasper "dense."
The mods have counseled Bacasper and Pligganease to rethink their language but not Kuros. Why, you in your impartiality, ask? Because we can call red-faced, wild-eyed, major douches like Michael Moore red-faced, wild-eyed, major douches anytime we like. "Michael Moore is a major douche." See? What we cannot do, Nowhere Man, is call posters like, say, you, red-faced, wild-eyed, major douches. That is why people will never here me say something like "Nowhere Man is a red-faced, wild-eyed, major douche" or, to cite another example, "Nowhere Man is a douchebag." I would not say something like that, and indeed I would not approve of someone else calling you "a douchebag," either, Nowhere Man.
Hope that answers your question. Rich thread, indeed. |
