|
|
The other day there was a post about HomePlus somewhere carrying a new line of canned veggies. Today I dropped in at the Jamshil store and found it was true for my local store.
Creamed Corn, New Potatoes, Sweet Peas, Green Beans (both French Cut and Whole), Mixed Vegetables, Spinach, Baby Carrots. All SouthWest brand.
They're just at the bottom of the escalator as you go down.
For frosting on the cake, there is a Subway Sandwich shop in the Castle Gold building's Food Court with a young lady who's chatty enough in English to tell you that indeed, the Meatball Maranara sandwich is the favorite of foreigners who shop there. |

Well, someone has to give you the attention you are craving, so here goes:
Why I LOVE China:
- friendly people
- cheap albeit good food (includes variety)
- better foreign restaurants
- richer language/culture
- no ya-ta boy (meaning no people that have lived in a country for more than 10 years and still don't have a girlfriend/get laid/get a life) |

China is quite scummier than, say, South Korea or Japan- don't you think?!
It also has periodical race-based demonstrations that are the size of the anti-U.S.A. ones from 2002-2003 period in Gwanghwamoon, Seoul.
China is, in my honest opinion, way more fucked up than the R.O.K..
Sincerely,
R |

Do you miss the point often, jou ma se poes, you just having a bad day or were you posting while drunk?
The 11 people I work with were glad to hear what is now available for the first time up the street from us. I suspect there are a few other people in this part of town who'd like to know they can now get one or more of the veggies I listed.
The whole purpose of this site is to share information, which I did. Your kind of response is all too typical of all too many posters and is what earns Dave's the reputation of a place for bitter losers. Maybe you should be spending some time with all those friendly Chinese and learn a thing or two about how to behave in public. |

Getting back to the OP's point, yes, it is nice that HomePlus-Tesco has added some vegetables, beyond the corn, corn, corn at most other stores. They are to be commended.
As to China, I wonder whether there is a wider variety of food, especially Western food, available in their stores? I'll bet there is. Chinese food uses a pretty wide variety of vegetables. And it's a big country, with a variety of cuisines.
I wish the other chains in Korea would take a cue from Home-Plus. If any Koreans are reading this, think about it: When you travel or study abroad, is it important to you to have your ramen, your kimchi, etc.?
Well, foreigners like to be able to get food from home, too. And there are foreigners of many nationalities working and visiting in Korea, besides English-speaking Westerners. I have met people from Greece, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Norway, Bulgaria, etc. here, and I am not in Seoul, either.
It would be nice if the stores in the smaller cities would make an effort to show some courtesy to their foreign guests by stocking a wider variety of foods, condiments, teas, etc. And even if they didn't stock the stuff on the shelves, stores could provide a special order service.
At least some Asian food is readily available in most supermarkets in the U.S. And if you look hard enough, you can find just about anything in America, even special Korean delicacies:

So how about returning the favor, Korea? |

And some of us foreeeners like foods from ALL over the world...and I don't need a hamburger whenever I go abroad. Soooo many Koreans can't even go somewhere for a few days without ramyon. If you ever go to Hong Kong, City Super will make your head spin. They have sooo many foods from all over the world, including a whole Korean section, so the ramyon is there, too. Home Plus is not that great IMO. Not to mention fresh veggies are better than canned anyways. Just the thought of canned spinach disgusts me. |

Which is exactly the point. It's nice to have some of the veggies from back home in addition to the ones grown locally. Why should we be restricted to only the veggies grown here?
Now excuse me while I go make a chicken pot pie with some of my new canned veggies. (Yes, fresh would be nice, too but we'll have to wait a little longer for to show up at the grocery store.) |

Its just not natural (to me) to eat vegetables from a can..
but anyway - the whole Jamsil, Cheonho Homeplus thing and where is it? has been done many times before -
here is one of the links......
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=1359635&highlight=#1359635
The Jamsil Homeplus... (see map) - http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1306/1449178497_f710c89f81.jpg?v=0
Lotte Station - Exit 8 - you should be standing directly in front of Lotte Gold Castle... - walk (away from Lotte - not towards Lotte - walk towards SongPa-gu Office) - you will walk across the small street that will have you standing in front of what used to be Chillis restaurant (but has now been changed into a Korean/Japanese restaurant)... look into the sky about ex-chillis you will see the Homeplus sign on top of their store..) - you just have to walk behind what used to be Chillis....
The Cheonho Homeplus... (see map)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1190/1449178595_ddc54e9bb8.jpg?v=0
still under construction (not sure when it will be finished - but the construction guys are working hard each day) - its right next to the Cheonho post office... (or opposite from the Cheonho police station) - or opposite the Cheonho "2001 Outlet" - which is really the Cheonho Kims Club"...
Cheonho Station - exit 3 - you should be standing on the corner where Hyundai department store is - walk away from Hyundai department store towards the corner of the next street (which has that new "Daewoo Officetel towers" and where the 1000won shops are.... walk around the corner - you should now be standing infront of the Cheonho post office.... the new Homeplus is being constructed next to the post office.... stop walking... (look across the street) - you will see the "2001 Outlet" (which has "Kims Club" downstairs and the police station next door.....)

jou ma se poes is obviously living/working in China - but he/she hangs out of the Korean job forums for some reason...
Must be a person who used to live/teach in Korea but had to run away when the new Visa laws were implemented (criminal record check) |
